The study introduces Auditable CT Phenotyping (ACT), a method that uses report-derived radiological observations to predict 221 electronic-health-record phenotypes from CT scans. Trained on 38,317 patients and evaluated on 25,183 held‑out patients, ACT outperformed five vision‑language baselines and CT‑CLIP in both zero‑shot and linear probing settings. Analysis of the model’s probes revealed that a small set of observations, such as aortic and coronary calcification, dominated top predictions, but restricting the observation bank to clinician‑specified evidence improved interpretability without sacrificing accuracy.

The paper introduces the Cross‑Modal Triage Network (CMTN), a multimodal deep‑learning model that fuses a Swin Transformer V2 visual encoder with a PubMedBERT text encoder to perform severity‑based triage, pathology detection, and generate visual explanations for chest radiographs. Trained on 34,639 image‑text pairs from MIMIC‑CXR‑JPG, the CMTN achieves high ordinal agreement with reference labels (QWK = 0.9341) and excellent pathology detection (macro‑AUROC = 0.9970) while operating with 34 ms latency. However, a blinded clinical audit revealed low agreement with expert radiologists (QWK = 0.1399) and only modest spatial‑semantic concordance in heatmaps, underscoring the gap between algorithmic performance and clinical judgment.

The article presents a comparative study of convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures for classifying COVID-19 from healthy lung images using CT and X‑ray scans. Multiple pre‑trained models—including VGG, DenseNet, ResNet, MobileNet, Xception, Inception, EfficientNet, and NasNet—were evaluated on two X‑ray and two CT datasets. ResNet and VGG achieved the highest accuracies, ranging from 95% to 98%, outperforming previous reports in the literature.
