Out-of-Distribution Object Detection in Street Scenes via Synthetic Outlier Exposure and Transfer Learning

The paper introduces SynOE-OD, a method for detecting out-of-distribution (OOD) objects in street scenes by generating synthetic outliers through text-guided inpainting and an open-vocabulary detector. These synthetic outliers are used to fine-tune a chosen object detector with an added OOD class, eliminating the need for auxiliary branches during inference. On the OoDIS benchmark, SynOE-OD achieves state‑of‑the‑art performance, outperforming the strongest open‑vocabulary baseline across multiple datasets while preserving competitive in‑distribution detection.

Optimizing Three Critical Factors for Practical and Effective OOD Detection Fine-Tuning

The paper introduces a framework for out-of-distribution (OOD) detection that addresses the trade‑off between detection performance and classification accuracy caused by fine‑tuning with auxiliary outlier data. It optimizes three factors—model reminder, data sampling, and representation learning—by proposing Self‑Knowledge Distillation to preserve accuracy, Semi‑hard Outlier Sampling to enhance detection with minimal data, and Outlier‑aware Supervised Contrastive Learning to improve ID‑OOD separability. The combined approach yields cumulative gains, outperforming existing methods on diverse benchmarks, especially in long‑tailed scenarios, and offers a robust baseline for real‑world OOD detection.

Out-of-Distribution Semantic Occupancy Prediction

The paper introduces Out-of-Distribution Semantic Occupancy Prediction, a task that focuses on detecting unknown objects in 3D voxel space for autonomous driving. It proposes Realistic Anomaly Augmentation to create two new datasets, VAA-KITTI and VAA-KITTI-360, and presents the OccOoD framework, which uses Cross‑Space Semantic Refinement to improve OoD detection while maintaining semantic occupancy accuracy. Experiments show OccOoD achieves an AuROC of 65.50% and an AuPRCr of 31.83% within a 1.2 m radius, demonstrating strong generalization to real‑world urban scenes.

SPK: Eliciting Structured Prior Knowledge for Interpretable Out-of-Distribution Detection in Real-Time Object Detection

The paper introduces Structured Prior Knowledge (SPK), a framework that extracts and organizes latent priors from pretrained object detectors to improve out-of-distribution (OoD) detection. SPK uses in-distribution data and hallucination-inducing samples to elicit part-level semantic concepts, then combines these with geometric and contextual priors into a compact five-dimensional representation. Experiments across various detector architectures and OoD benchmarks show that SPK achieves state-of-the-art performance, demonstrating that pretrained detectors encode richer latent knowledge than previously exploited.

CODE: Cross-Modal Calibration and Dynamic Suppression for Open World Object Detection

CODE: Cross-Modal Calibration and Dynamic Suppression for Open World Object Detection introduces a unified inference-time framework that addresses semantic ambiguity and over-suppression in multimodal OWOD systems. It comprises Cross-Modal Joint Confidence Calibration, Uncertainty-Guided Universal Objectness Enhancement, and Dynamic Outlier Suppression via Confidence Margin. Experiments on the Real-World Detection benchmark with the OWL‑ViT L/14 backbone show CODE achieving 21.7 U‑mAP and 40.8 K‑mAP, surpassing prior state‑of‑the‑art results by 2.6 and 2.3 points respectively.

Rethinking Pre-Training and Augmentation for Zero-Shot Cross-City Object Detection

The paper proposes a modular training pipeline for zero‑shot cross‑city object detection that combines a multi‑dataset pre‑training strategy with class‑agnostic objectness distillation and a domain‑resilient augmentation stream featuring a Grayworld transformation. Applied to the RF‑DETR detector, the approach reduces cross‑city distribution gaps while using only 16 GB GPU memory, achieving a 24.29‑point mAP improvement and 1st place on the AI City Challenge Track 6 leaderboard. The authors provide code and data at the referenced GitHub repository.
