Airfoil2Vec: Spectral Geometry-Conditioned Neural Surrogate Models for Airfoil Aerodynamics and a Downforce-Generating CFD Dataset

The paper presents a dataset of roughly 10,000 RANS simulations of steady, incompressible, two‑dimensional subsonic flow around downforce‑generating NACA 4‑digit airfoils, aimed at automotive and motorsport regimes. It explores geometry‑conditioned neural surrogates—comparing neural fields, neural ODEs, MLPs, graph models, and spectral conditioning—and introduces Airfoil2Vec, a spectral geometry encoder that fuses joint contour, camber, and thickness spectra to predict continuous pressure and velocity fields. The surrogate models are evaluated on angle‑of‑attack interpolation, unseen NACA geometries, and non‑NACA airfoils, achieving accurate aerodynamic predictions with orders‑of‑magnitude speedups over traditional CFD.

A Data Fusion Framework for Grounding Aerospace Surrogate Model via Experimental Wind-Tunnel Observations

The paper introduces a correction framework that grounds a CFD-trained deep learning surrogate model for aerospace aerodynamics using wind‑tunnel pressure‑sensor (PSP) data. By training a correction network on spatially registered PSP measurements at two Mach numbers, the authors adjust the surrogate’s predictions without retraining its core parameters, achieving improved agreement with experimental pressure distributions—especially at the wing suction peak and shock location. The grounded surrogate matches measurements within 2.3–2.7% of the Cp range on unseen angles of attack and outperforms simple interpolation between measured states.

Advances in Scientific Machine Learning for Coupled Fluid Flow and Transport

This chapter reviews recent advances in Scientific Machine Learning (SciML) for modeling coupled fluid flow and transport phenomena governed by the incompressible Navier-Stokes and scalar transport equations. Such systems, found in applications like turbidity currents and thermal convection, feature strong nonlinear coupling and multiscale behavior that make high-fidelity simulations computationally expensive.

Cross-Domain Pretraining for Steady-State Neural CFD Surrogates

The paper presents cross‑domain pretraining for neural surrogates in steady‑state computational fluid dynamics (CFD). By training models across varied geometries, boundary conditions, and fidelities, the authors show that such pretraining improves zero‑ and few‑shot performance compared to training from scratch or transferring from domain‑specific experts. Finetuning a pretrained cross‑domain model can reduce errors by 2–3× at the same sample size and require eight times fewer samples to reach the same error, with benefits that grow with model size and dataset diversity.

Localized Generative Design of Ship Hulls with Diffusion Models and High-Fidelity Assessment

The paper introduces a reward‑directed diffusion framework for localized ship hull optimization, using parametric masking to focus changes on specific hull regions while maintaining overall continuity. Surrogate‑assisted sampling targets low calm‑water resistance, and a high‑fidelity CFD pipeline evaluates the designs, revealing trade‑offs between friction and pressure that are not captured by empirical screening. The study demonstrates that detailed assessment can uncover limitations in the generative model and guide better objective formulations for realistic hull designs.
