A Graph-informed Kriging model for sample-efficient Bayesian optimization of wind farm layouts

The paper introduces a Graph-informed Kriging framework that embeds aerodynamic interaction data into the surrogate mean function for wind farm layout optimization. By representing the farm as a directed aerodynamic graph and assembling pairwise turbine interactions into a farm-scale mean, the method captures dominant variation in annual energy production, allowing the Gaussian process to focus on residuals. Numerical experiments demonstrate that this approach improves AEP prediction accuracy and sample efficiency over conventional Kriging, achieving competitive solutions on the IEA Wind Task 37 benchmark with only about 280 evaluations and outperforming other methods in both 16- and 48-turbine cases.

UniWind: Day-Ahead Wind Power Forecasting via Physics-Informed State Routing

UniWind is a wind power forecasting framework that blends physics-informed generation priors with data-driven state-aware corrections. It constructs a site‑calibrated physical prior using a monotone warp and a shared power curve, then refines this prior with a latent state encoder and a state‑aware power corrector guided by pseudo‑labels. Experiments on 24 real‑world datasets show that UniWind achieves strong forecasting accuracy, robustness, and generalization across full‑shot, cross‑farm zero‑shot, and cross‑region zero‑shot scenarios.

Noise Steering: Exploiting Wake Steering and Acoustic Directivity for Noise-Constrained Wind Farm Control via Reinforcement Learning

Noise Steering is a reinforcement learning approach that jointly adjusts turbine yaw angles and power setpoints to maximize wind farm power while keeping noise within a 40 dB limit in a protected area. By learning to redirect both wakes and acoustic directivity, the method achieves only a 2–7.7 % power deficit compared to a 17 % loss with standard noise‑reduced operation. The policy remains effective when tested in higher‑fidelity simulations, showing promise for better power‑noise trade‑offs in wind farm control.

Technical Comparative Benchmarking Study: Advanced AI Hybrid Methods for Renewable Energy Farm Optimization and Forecasting

The paper benchmarks a range of AI methods—conventional ML, ensemble learning, deep neural networks, recurrent architectures, Transformers, graph models, and hybrid ensemble deep learning—on three renewable energy datasets, including large‑scale wave energy converter (WEC) data and wind farm SCADA measurements. Tree ensembles, particularly Extra Trees, outperform traditional ML and neural predictors on structured WEC layout data, achieving a 63.7% MAE reduction over an MLP baseline. Spatial‑temporal graph networks (STGCN) and an RF‑BiLSTM hybrid further improve forecasting accuracy, with the hybrid model reaching an MAE of 150.5 kW, a 75% reduction over a standalone LSTM and 10% better than STGCN. The study concludes that no single architecture dominates; randomized ensembles excel for structured surrogate modeling, graph networks for explicit spatial interactions, and hybrid recurrent ensembles for combined nonlinear tabular and temporal dynamics.
