Towards Automated Solar Panel Integrity: Hybrid Deep Feature Extraction for Advanced Surface Defect Identification

The paper proposes a hybrid approach for detecting surface defects on solar panels by combining handcrafted features—Local Binary Pattern, Histogram of Gradients, and Gabor Filters—with deep features extracted from DenseNet‑169. The concatenated feature set is classified using SVM, XGBoost, and LGBM, with the DenseNet‑169 + Gabor (SVM) configuration achieving the highest accuracy of 99.17% on an augmented dataset. This method aims to provide an automated, accurate, and flexible defect‑detection system for large‑scale, remote solar power plants.

OptiModNet: A UNet-Transformer Hybrid with Grouped-Query and Channel Attention for Optic Disc and Cup Segmentation

OptiModNet is a lightweight UNet‑Transformer hybrid designed for optic disc and cup segmentation. It incorporates grouped‑query and channel attention across multiple stages, along with an Aggregated Pyramid Loss to improve gradient flow and structural consistency. Evaluated on the REFUGE2 dataset, it surpasses existing methods by over 2.5 % while using only 3.73 GFLOPs and 1.93 M parameters.

Vision-Language Model for Accurate Crater Detection

The paper presents a deep‑learning crater detection algorithm (CDA) based on the OWLv2 Vision Transformer, fine‑tuned with Low‑Rank Adaptation on a manually labeled IMPACT dataset. It optimizes a combined loss of CIoU for localization and contrastive loss for classification, achieving a maximum recall of 92.6% and precision of 71.4% on lunar images. The method demonstrates reliable crater detection under varied illumination and rugged terrain, supporting safer lunar landings.

Token Clustering and Semantic Sequence Mamba for Hyperspectral Image Classification

Token Clustering and Semantic Sequence Mamba (STMamba) is a new approach for hyperspectral image classification that organizes sparse tokens into semantically coherent sequences. It uses a hierarchical encoder-decoder with a Token Clustering Module (TCM) to select semantic tokens and a Cross-scale Neighborhood Attention (CNA) Upsampler to restore dense features. At the micro level, density-aware clustering and a quadtree-based dynamic selection keep sparse, spatially distributed tokens, while Spatial and Spectral Semantic-wise Sequencing Mamba (SWSM) modules capture long-range spatial and spectral dependencies within homogeneous semantic token sequences. Experiments on three large-scale benchmark datasets show that STMamba outperforms state‑of‑the‑art methods in both quantitative and qualitative metrics.

SolarBench: A global solar energy nowcasting benchmark

SolarBench is an open global benchmark for image-based solar nowcasting that consolidates over six million sky and satellite images from 11 sites across a decade, paired with irradiance, PV output, and atmospheric data. The benchmark includes a toolbox for reproducible data access, processing, model development, and evaluation. Using SolarBench, the authors benchmark representative models, uncover a gap between average forecasting accuracy and the capture of rapid solar fluctuations, quantify predictability across cloud regimes, and demonstrate data‑efficient adaptation to new PV systems.
