A Hybrid Edge Cloud Digital Twin for Welfare-Constrained Control in Poultry Production

The paper presents a hybrid edge‑cloud digital twin for welfare‑constrained environmental control in poultry farms. It combines distributed sensing, on‑device state estimation, a physics‑based thermodynamic model with a learned residual, and model predictive control to adaptively manage temperature and ammonia levels. Experiments in a broiler testbed show significant improvements: temperature prediction error drops from 1.8 °C to 0.4 °C, ammonia violations fall by 90 %, and communication needs are reduced 30‑fold, with a Domain Transfer Score of 0.92 indicating strong cross‑facility robustness.

Sparse-Observation Atmospheric Thermal Forecasting with Physics-Informed Neural Networks for Climate-Aware Digital Twins

The paper evaluates a physics-informed neural network (PINN) for short‑horizon atmospheric temperature forecasting where observations are sparse. Using ERA5 data at three pressure levels, the PINN outperforms persistence, local‑trend, and two neural‑network baselines, with mean RMSE improvements ranging from 8.1 % at one hour to 23.8 % at three hours. The advantage persists under severe observation sparsity and transfers across regions, though it degrades in complex terrain, highlighting limits of a fixed vertical‑coordinate representation.

Open datasets and machine learning for two-phase heat transfer: a review following a spatial-temporal taxonomy

The review discusses how two‑phase heat transfer—critical for boiling, condensation, and thermal management—poses challenges for data reuse due to its complex interfacial physics. It surveys open datasets, machine‑learning techniques, and reusable software, organizing them with a spatial‑plus‑temporal dimensionality taxonomy (S+TD) that links data types to AI tasks such as regression, sequence learning, and image/video analysis. The paper proposes a roadmap for physics‑aware open data, including metadata standards, maturity labels, benchmark splits, and community databanks, emphasizing that progress in two‑phase AI relies as much on robust data infrastructure as on model design.
