The paper presents the first systematic evaluation of uncertainty quantification (UQ) methods applied to a foundation model for semantic segmentation. By fine‑tuning a lightweight DPT decoder on the pretrained SAM2 encoder, the authors benchmark four UQ approaches—Monte Carlo Dropout, Deep Sub‑Ensemble, Test‑Time Augmentation, and Evidential Deep Learning—across Cityscapes, NYUv2, and two out‑of‑domain settings, comparing segmentation accuracy, calibration, uncertainty quality, and inference time. The results reveal clear trade‑offs between predictive performance, reliability, and computational cost, underscoring both the promise and current limitations of uncertainty‑aware foundation models for real‑world deployment.

Open-vocabulary remote sensing segmentation has recently emerged as a promising paradigm that enables pixel-level recognition of arbitrary categories specified by natural language, including classes unseen during training. However, geospatial domain shifts caused by heterogeneous regions, spatial resolutions, and acquisition platforms weaken visual-text matching and limit cross-dataset generalization.
PlantC2USeg is a deep transfer‑learning framework that uses cross‑scale consistency learning and an information‑restricted decoder to improve plant point cloud segmentation. It achieves state‑of‑the‑art performance on Soybean3D and ShapeNet Part, and demonstrates strong few‑shot generalization across species and sensing conditions. The method reduces the need for large annotated datasets and lowers adaptation overhead for new plant species.

The paper introduces a composition‑aware pretraining framework for geospatial foundation models that explicitly encodes fractional land‑cover mixtures as histogram targets for each satellite image cell. By using Earth Mover’s Distance to distill these composition targets into a 36.8 M‑parameter backbone, the authors demonstrate significant improvements on region‑level tasks such as zero‑shot image retrieval and scene classification, while maintaining competitive performance on fine‑grained tasks like segmentation and object detection. The method outperforms larger models (SatMAE and Prithvi‑EO‑2.0) and achieves a 55.6 % relative boost on the ForestNet‑12 dataset, evidencing the benefit of explicit composition modeling.
