Lesion-DDPM: Lesion-Enhanced 3D Diffusion for MS MRI Synthesis

arXiv:2606. 15457v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: 3D FLAIR MRI is widely recommended as one of the standard MRI sequences for brain imaging in multiple sclerosis (MS), but publicly available MS datasets remain relatively small and vary across scanners, acquisition protocols, and lesion patterns.

Progression as Latent Drift: Generative Forecasting of Slow-Evolving Pathologies

The paper introduces Latent Drift, a generative forecasting framework that predicts slow-evolving neurodegenerative disease progression by learning changes in a compressed semantic representation rather than full-resolution anatomy. It addresses two failure modes—identity collapse and continuous interpolation trap—by removing pixel-level identity from the prediction target and applying Finite Scalar Quantization to suppress high-frequency nuisance fluctuations. Experiments on longitudinal 3D brain MRI demonstrate that Latent Drift outperforms diffusion and autoregressive transformer baselines in both generative fidelity and clinically relevant metrics.

A generalizable structural brain MRI foundation model built through dual-priority federated pretraining

BrainFedFM is a structural brain MRI foundation model that was federatively pretrained on 164,707 3‑D scans from 42 sites using a dual‑priority approach that emphasizes informative anatomical regions locally and prioritizes site contributions globally. The model outperformed seven baseline models—including four centralized foundation models—across 20 downstream tasks (classification, regression, segmentation), achieving a mean rank of 1.68 and a 50% performance gain, especially in classification and regression and among underrepresented populations. These results demonstrate the model’s generalizability and show that federated pretraining can effectively develop neuroimaging foundation models without pooling raw images.

Consistency Models for Fast MRI Reconstruction Using Regularization by Denoising

The paper introduces CM-RED, a fast MRI reconstruction method that combines a pretrained consistency model with the regularization by denoising framework. By integrating controlled noise injection into accelerated proximal gradient updates, CM-RED achieves high‑quality reconstructions on fastMRI knee and brain datasets with only four network function evaluations. It consistently outperforms existing diffusion‑ and consistency‑based approaches in quantitative metrics, visual fidelity, and robustness to hyperparameter changes.

Atlases Are Already Inside: Recovering Population Templates from Pretrained Diffusion Models

The paper introduces an inference-time sampler for pretrained diffusion models that extracts an intrinsic atlas of the population the model synthesizes, converging from any random seed to the population’s central anatomy. This method requires no retraining, works across multiple domains such as brain MRI, chest X-ray, faces, and 3D shapes, and can generate atlases for subpopulations like different ages. Evaluations show the intrinsic atlas performs as well or better than classical and learned templates for registration tasks and is the most central template for held‑out brain MRI cohorts.
