Towards Consistent Geospatial Representations: Aligning One Encoder to Many Foundation Models

The paper introduces Pangaea-Latents, an extension of the Pangaea benchmark that provides frozen embeddings from five geospatial foundation models (GFMs) across eleven datasets, showing that these embeddings are neither redundant nor disjoint. It then proposes GeoMixture, a framework that aligns a Vision Transformer (ViT) to multiple GFMs per dataset using a multi-representation alignment (mREPA) objective, resulting in an encoder that achieves the best average rank across nine Pangaea datasets while maintaining cross-task consistency.

SLED: Scalable Location Encoding via Distillation

arXiv:2608. 06612v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: The plethora of readily available geospatial data offers exciting opportunities to learn high quality representations of the planet, but the sheer size of the Earth Observations (EO), differing modalities, and different sensor types pose significant challenges in doing so.

GeoSeg-OV: Bridging Geospatial Gaps with Structural Guidance for Open-Vocabulary Remote Sensing Segmentation

Open-vocabulary remote sensing segmentation has recently emerged as a promising paradigm that enables pixel-level recognition of arbitrary categories specified by natural language, including classes unseen during training. However, geospatial domain shifts caused by heterogeneous regions, spatial resolutions, and acquisition platforms weaken visual-text matching and limit cross-dataset generalization.

GTPred: Benchmarking MLLMs for Interpretable Geo-localization and Time-of-capture Prediction

GTPred is a new benchmark for geo‑temporal prediction that evaluates multi‑modal large language models (MLLMs) on 370 images taken across 120 years worldwide. It assesses predictions by matching both the year and a hierarchical location sequence, and includes annotated reasoning chains to test intermediate reasoning. Experiments on 15 MLLMs show that while visual perception is strong, models still lack world knowledge and geo‑temporal reasoning, and that adding temporal data improves location inference.
