Tool-Augmented On-Policy Distillation for LLM Domain Adaptation in Sequence-Based Omics Tasks

The paper introduces OmicsBench, a new reasoning benchmark for multi‑omics sequences that includes 1,160 expert‑validated questions across DNA regulation, RNA processing, and protein function tasks, requiring traceable evidence chains. Evaluation of 17 large language models shows that scientific LLMs, while more accurate in classification, often lack valid evidence, suggesting shortcut learning. To address this, the authors propose tool‑augmented on‑policy distillation (TA‑OPD), a post‑training method that improves both evidence grounding and predictive performance across five Qwen3.5 models of varying sizes.

Learning Diagnostic Reasoning for Decision Support in Toxicology

The paper introduces DeToxR, a reinforcement‑learning‑enhanced large language model designed to support decision making in acute toxicology cases. It fuses unstructured narratives from paramedics and patients with structured vital‑sign data to predict co‑ingested substances across 14 classes. In preliminary validation, DeToxR outperforms baseline models, achieving higher micro‑F1 and recall scores for poison identification.

Retrieval-Augmented Interpretable Learning: Towards Task-Specific Zero-Shot Models in Healthcare

arXiv:2607. 17508v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We introduce Retrieval-Augmented Interpretable Learning (RAIL), a probabilistic meta-learning framework for zero-shot generation of task-specific interpretable models that synthesizes coefficient-space structure from natural-language task descriptions and a memory of previously learned task-specific predictors.

Surgical Alignment in Knowledge Graph Training for Clinical Diagnosis with Large Language Models

The paper investigates how to incorporate biomedical knowledge graphs (KGs) into large language models (LLMs) for clinical diagnosis. It evaluates five KG task formulations, three training paradigms, two KGs, and three base LLMs, finding that all paradigms outperform a non‑finetuned baseline but differ in knowledge transfer behavior. Introducing Gradient Intervention Density (GID) and Gradient Distortion (GD) metrics, the study identifies a ‘surgical alignment’ regime—sparse, localized updates achieved by KG‑judgment training with KL regularization—that improves reasoning quality even when in‑domain accuracy is lower than task‑specific supervised fine‑tuning.
