Deep Meets Classical: A CPU-Efficient Decision-Fusion Model for Automatic Modulation Classification

The paper introduces FuseAMC, a lightweight decision‑fusion model that combines a residual CNN and a gradient‑boosted‑tree cumulant classifier for automatic modulation classification. By training a logistic‑regression meta‑combiner on the class‑posteriors of both models, FuseAMC achieves higher overall accuracy than either approach alone, especially improving performance at both low and high signal‑to‑noise ratios. The resulting system contains only about 0.2 million parameters, occupies a few megabytes, and requires roughly 3 MFLOPs per frame, enabling training and inference on a single CPU core suitable for embedded processors.

An Uncertainty-Driven Hybrid Deep Learning Approach for Broad-Coverage RF Modulation Recognition

arXiv:2608. 00796v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Automatic RF modulation recognition is of critical importance in spectrum monitoring, electronic warfare, and cognitive radio applications, where low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions and the growing diversity of modulation schemes limit the performance of existing methods.

AudioFuse: Unified Spectral-Temporal Learning via a Hybrid ViT-1D CNN Architecture for Robust Phonocardiogram Classification

AudioFuse is a hybrid architecture that jointly learns from spectrograms and raw waveforms to classify phonocardiograms. It combines a wide-and-shallow Vision Transformer for spectral features with a shallow 1D CNN for temporal waveforms, reducing overfitting while capturing complementary information. On the PhysioNet 2016 dataset, AudioFuse achieves a state‑of‑the‑art ROC‑AUC of 0.8608 and shows superior robustness to domain shift on the PASCAL dataset, outperforming both spectrogram‑only and waveform‑only baselines.

Importance-Aware Feature Sparsification for Wireless Split Learning

The paper introduces Importance-Aware Class-Balanced Sparsification (ICS) for wireless split learning, a lightweight method that ranks feature channels on the server using Grad‑CAM scores from the true‑class logit. By aggregating per‑class scores into a class‑balanced importance vector, clients can retain the top‑N feature channels without extra forward or backward passes, reducing communication overhead while mitigating head‑class bias under label skew. The authors provide a non‑asymptotic convergence bound, analyze overhead against baselines, and extend the approach to parallel split learning and transformer models, demonstrating consistent performance gains, especially under severe non‑i.i.d. data partitions.

CORE-STACK+: Meta-Learning for Deep Stacked Generalization

CORE-STACK+ is a new meta‑learning framework for deep stacked generalization that tackles two key problems in heterogeneous vision ensembles: prediction‑space multicollinearity and calibration collapse. It introduces a four‑step preconditioning pipeline—kernelized redundancy filtering, a lightweight differentiable meta‑feature gate, a spectrum‑adaptive ridge penalty, and a Laplace‑approximate Bayesian blender—to jointly improve conditioning and calibration. Across six vision benchmarks, CORE‑STACK+ boosts accuracy, reduces model count and inference cost, and significantly lowers expected calibration error compared to existing methods.

CIG-MAE: Cross-Modal Information-Guided Masked Autoencoder for Self-Supervised WiFi Sensing

CIG-MAE is a self‑supervised framework for WiFi‑based human action recognition that uses a cross‑modal masked autoencoder to reconstruct both amplitude and phase of Channel State Information. It introduces an adaptive, information‑guided masking strategy that focuses on high‑density time‑frequency regions and employs a Barlow Twins regularizer to align cross‑modal representations without negative samples. Experiments on three public datasets show that CIG‑MAE outperforms state‑of‑the‑art SSL methods and even surpasses a fully supervised baseline, highlighting its data efficiency, robustness, and generalization.

MCL: Meta Convolution Layer

The paper introduces the Meta Convolution Layer (MCL), a dynamic convolution approach that models kernels as input‑conditioned high‑order polynomial functions instead of linear mixtures of basis kernels. MCL generates a single adaptive kernel through a structured polynomial meta‑network, improving training stability and expressivity. Experiments show significant accuracy gains on ImageNet, CIFAR, and fine‑grained classification tasks when MCL is added to ResNet, Wide‑ResNet, Swin, and ViT backbones.
