Dimension Dependent Correlation Gap Bounds under Restricted Independence

arXiv:2609. 02659v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: The pairwise independent correlation gap is the ratio of the maximum expected value of a set function under arbitrary dependence to that under pairwise independence, measuring the loss from this independence restriction.

Optimal Unambiguous DNFs and Alon-Saks-Seymour

We construct unambiguous DNFs having width $O(n)$ but $0$-certificate complexity $Ω(n^2)$. By utilizing the special structure of these DNFs, we prove a lifting theorem with a constant-sized gadget that lifts the DNF to a communication problem, while losslessly translating the separation in certificate complexity to a separation in communication complexity.

A positive resolution of the gap-entropy conjecture

arXiv:2609.10529v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We prove the gap-entropy conjecture for fixed-confidence best-arm identification with independent unit-variance Gaussian arms, means in $[0,1]$, and...

A Fourier analytique approach to Gaussian mixture learning

arXiv:2004. 05813v3 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Suppose that we are given independent, identically distributed random samples $x_1,\cdots,x_n$ from a mixture at most $k$ many $d$-dimensional spherical Gaussian distributions $\mu_1,\cdots,\mu_{k_0}$ of identical and known variance $\sigma^2$ in each coordinate, such that the minimum $\ell^2$ distance between two distinct centers $y_l$ and $y_j$ is greater than $2\Delta\sigma \min\{\sqrt{d},\sqrt k\}$, where $\Delta>C_0$, and $C_0$ is a sufficiently large universal constant.
