The paper introduces TopoCompress, a token compression framework designed for distributed edge Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) inference. It jointly optimizes token compression, expert deployment, GPU-CPU residency, and routing to reduce cross-server communication and resource usage. The method uses a two-timescale alternating optimization, with an online loop compressing low-importance tokens and an offline loop updating expert placement based on accumulated traffic.

The paper introduces Token Communication (TokCom) as a native interface for Collaborative Embodied Artificial Intelligence (CEAI), where tokens act as compact semantic carriers and inference units for generative foundation models. It outlines a TokCom-assisted CEAI framework featuring a task‑adaptive communication protocol that includes a compact codebook, syntax rules, and contextual examples to guide token distillation and reconstruction over wireless channels. A case study on collaborative object transport shows that TokCom significantly reduces source payload bit consumption while maintaining task efficiency and robustness to noisy channels.

DART-FL is a multitask federated learning framework designed for edge devices that must balance online inference and model training under limited resources. It dynamically allocates resources between inference and training based on current inference backlog and service capacity, then distributes remaining training capacity among tasks using a queue‑aware scheduler that adjusts loss weights. Experiments on image classification datasets with synthetic and real workloads show that DART‑FL adapts to bursty inference demand, improving accuracy for high‑demand tasks while preserving overall multitask performance.

Ada-TokenCom is a rate‑adaptive token communication framework that uses large autoregressive models to compress and transmit tokens efficiently. It combines next‑token prediction with arithmetic coding, sending only the most informative tokens and letting the receiver generate the rest. A Lyapunov‑based algorithm dynamically adjusts compression and modulation to match changing network conditions, and simulations show it outperforms existing digital and deep joint source‑channel coding baselines.

The paper introduces a token‑oriented semantic communication framework that transmits only task‑relevant image latents instead of full token embeddings, reducing communication cost and improving interoperability. It leverages a spatial alignment between vision transformer patch tokens and learned image compression latents, enabling token‑level relevance estimation and selective transmission. Experiments on ImageNet demonstrate a superior rate–accuracy trade‑off compared to existing semantic communication methods and hand‑crafted codecs.

Edge inference is a promising paradigm to provide large language model (LLM) inference services in next-generation mobile networks. LLM inference mainly relies on two approaches: Autoregressive decoding (AD) generates output tokens sequentially, resulting in long latency; Speculative decoding (SD) accelerates inference by using a small language model (SLM) to generate multiple draft tokens for LLM verification, but incurs extra memory costs.
