Video-Based Palm-Vein Authentication under Challenging Conditions

The paper introduces the Columbia University Palm‑vein (CUP) dataset, the first public video‑based palm‑vein dataset that captures palms under four surface conditions—clean, warm, wet, and dirty—along with physiological and demographic metadata. Twenty‑one recognizers are benchmarked on CUP, revealing that models performing well on clean palms lose most accuracy on dirty palms, with mean EER roughly quadrupling. The authors propose a lightweight design that fuses global cosine similarity with a saliency‑steered region‑level optimal transport, achieving state‑of‑the‑art performance across all surfaces while reducing parameters and computational cost, and they identify demographic gaps in warm‑condition performance.

GBU-Palm: A Multimodal Video Dataset and Benchmark for Palm Presentation Attack Detection

arXiv:2608. 14389v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Existing palm presentation attack detection (PAD) datasets are often limited by static imagery, restricted acquisition conditions, or insufficient multimodal video data, hindering systematic evaluation across environments, modalities, and attack types.

Training-Free Hold-Usage Detection in Sport Climbing with Foundation Pose Models

The paper presents a training‑free method for detecting which holds a climber uses in sport climbing videos by leveraging a frozen foundation pose model (Sapiens) that provides fingertip and toe keypoints. Using a simple proximity test, mutual exclusion, and a temporal‑persistence rule, the approach achieves high F_1 scores (up to 90.2%) on the Way Up dataset without any climbing‑specific training, outperforming repurposed pose pipelines. The resulting automatic predictions enable accurate coaching statistics, such as climb time and pace, with Pearson correlations of 1.00 and 0.94 respectively.

From ECG Signals to Representative-Morphology Heatmaps for Biometric Recognition

The paper introduces representative‑morphology heatmaps, a deterministic ECG‑to‑image representation that averages the five beats closest to the block mean within each ten‑beat block, producing either a conventional trace or a dense cardiac‑time‑by‑lead heatmap. Experiments on PTB, ECG‑ID, and MIMIC‑IV‑ECG‑DEMO show that heatmaps consistently improve verification and identification performance across 15 compact models, reducing EER by an average of 9.59 percentage points and increasing Rank‑1 by 24.69 points. The study also demonstrates that ImageNet initialization benefits multilead datasets, that performance does not scale monotonically with model size, and that useful channel combinations vary by cohort and biometric task.

Topology-Aware Global-Local Mamba Networks for Palm Vein Biometrics

Palm-vein recognition is a fine-grained biometric task in which both local vascular texture and the global layout of the vessel tree carry discriminative information, while public datasets remain limited. We propose a topology-aware global-local backbone that combines multi-scale local features, a structureguided directional stream built on a fixed Sobel-magnitude edge prior, and a four-direction state-space scan global pathway within six Topology-Aware Blocks.
