The paper presents ChatNDE Figure to Caption, an AI system that automates the interpretation of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) images. It combines a Vision‑and‑Language Pretraining (VLP) approach using ResNet50 for visual feature extraction and GPT‑2 for natural‑language captioning, evaluated with BLEU scores. Additionally, a Visual Question Answering (VQA) model is integrated to answer specific queries about the images, enhancing interactivity for field inspectors.

arXiv:2602. 00593v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Despite progress on general tasks, vision-language models (VLMs) still struggle with challenges that demand both fine-grained visual grounding and external knowledge, a synergy overlooked by existing benchmarks that evaluate these abilities in isolation.

SenseNova-U1.5 is an 8B‑MoT native unified multimodal model that can understand, reason about, and generate visual content without using an encoder or VAE. It improves visual fidelity and text rendering through spatially coherent patch reconstruction, large‑scale training on curated generation and editing data, and native resolutions up to 4K. Post‑training, specialized experts for visual aesthetics, bilingual text rendering, infographic generation, and image editing are optimized and distilled into a multi‑expert framework, yielding advances in image fidelity, complex composition, multi‑reference editing, and instruction following.

The paper introduces SVGLM, a framework that integrates scalable vector graphics (SVG) primitives into vision‑language models to enable image generation within reasoning tasks. By treating SVG both as image descriptions and text instructions, SVGLM offers a compact and interpretable method for connecting text and image reasoning. The authors provide a curated SVG‑based image editing dataset and demonstrate strong SVG generation and image‑aware reasoning performance on a mathematical benchmark.

The paper introduces Visual Retrieval Heads (VRHs), a small fraction of attention heads in vision‑language models that are causally responsible for grounding text descriptions to image regions. By recasting head‑scoring methods and evaluating across eleven VLMs and five benchmarks, the authors show that masking the top 20 VRHs can drop grounding accuracy by up to 80 percentage points, while random masking has little effect. VRHs generalize across various visual reference tasks, preserve output format while corrupting localization, and transfer causally across models sharing an LLM backbone.
