Conditional generative models have emerged as powerful tools for sampling from target conditional distributions, driving substantial advances across a wide range of scientific and applied domains. As these models proliferate, practitioners often face multiple plausible generators whose performance can vary with the task, data, or input condition.

CORE-STACK+ is a new meta‑learning framework for deep stacked generalization that tackles two key problems in heterogeneous vision ensembles: prediction‑space multicollinearity and calibration collapse. It introduces a four‑step preconditioning pipeline—kernelized redundancy filtering, a lightweight differentiable meta‑feature gate, a spectrum‑adaptive ridge penalty, and a Laplace‑approximate Bayesian blender—to jointly improve conditioning and calibration. Across six vision benchmarks, CORE‑STACK+ boosts accuracy, reduces model count and inference cost, and significantly lowers expected calibration error compared to existing methods.

The paper introduces a penalized distributionally robust optimization framework that allows an adversary to choose any distribution while incurring a Wasserstein penalty for deviating from the empirical distribution. It shows that the adversary’s problem can be reformulated as optimizing transport maps that push empirical samples to adversarial ones, proving that optimal maps are cyclically monotone. The authors argue that standard per-sample adversarial training violates this property and propose two remedies—multi-start particle ascent and input-convex neural network parameterization—to enforce cyclical monotonicity, demonstrating improved robustness and generalization in experiments on regression, image classification, and control tasks.
