Towards Investigating Residual Hearing Loss: Quantification of Fibrosis in a Novel Cochlear OCT Dataset

The study introduces a new optical coherence tomography (OCT) dataset of chronically implanted guinea pig cochleae to quantify intracochlear fibrosis, a factor that can impair residual hearing in cochlear implant users. Researchers applied several semantic segmentation models, finding that a modified UNET architecture (2D‑OCT‑UNET) on upscaled images achieved the best performance in identifying fibrosis and related structures. The dataset and code are publicly available for further research.

DualDiT: A Conditional Dual-Output Diffusion Transformer for Joint OCT Image and Segmentation Mask Generation

arXiv:2607. 29337v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Background and Objective: Generating realistic medical images with anatomically accurate segmentation masks helps address the shortage of annotated data in medical imaging, particularly in optical coherence tomography (OCT) of mouse eyes, where manual retinal layer delineation is labour-intensive due to tiny structures and required expertise, resulting in scarce datasets.

OptiModNet: A UNet-Transformer Hybrid with Grouped-Query and Channel Attention for Optic Disc and Cup Segmentation

OptiModNet is a lightweight UNet‑Transformer hybrid designed for optic disc and cup segmentation. It incorporates grouped‑query and channel attention across multiple stages, along with an Aggregated Pyramid Loss to improve gradient flow and structural consistency. Evaluated on the REFUGE2 dataset, it surpasses existing methods by over 2.5 % while using only 3.73 GFLOPs and 1.93 M parameters.

Automated 2D and 3D Segmentation of AMD and DME Lesions in OCT

This study presents four deep‑learning pipelines—two‑dimensional and three‑dimensional—for segmenting age‑related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) lesions in optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. The models achieve Dice scores between 0.76 and 0.82 and demonstrate strong volumetric and surface calibration (r_vol, r_surf ≥ 0.97) on an in‑domain validation set. Generalization was assessed on the OLIVES clinical cohort using proxy metrics such as biomarker AUROC, central subfield thickness correlation, and longitudinal concordance, showing that the predictions still track clinical biomarkers outside the training distribution, albeit with reduced strength.

Detection is solved, delineation is not: what governs tooth segmentation on panoramic radiographs

The study evaluates automatic tooth segmentation on panoramic radiographs using a large annotated corpus of 1,422 images and 42,142 tooth polygons. It finds that increasing input resolution improves boundary precision (mask mAP50‑95 rises from 0.656 to 0.717) while detection performance remains unchanged, and that architectural changes have minimal impact on in‑domain accuracy. Targeted interventions such as LoRA adaptation, promptable foundation models, and anatomical label assignment provide negligible gains, indicating that resolution and acquisition diversity should be prioritized over model novelty.
