SlugTrails: An Egocentric Benchmark for Floor Plan Localization in Large Buildings

SlugTrails is a new egocentric benchmark for floor‑plan‑based indoor visual localization in large buildings, featuring 30 Hz Aria glasses recordings across three campus buildings and six floors. The dataset includes CAD‑derived floor plans with semantic classes, circulation masks, and laser‑surveyed anchors for trajectory alignment. Five representative systems were evaluated, showing that stock checkpoints perform poorly while fine‑tuning on SlugTrails significantly improves performance and cross‑dataset generalization, indicating that data scarcity limits current methods.

Gauss What You Need: Compact Gaussian Splatting Across Scene Scales

Gauss What You Need: Compact Gaussian Splatting Across Scene Scales introduces TangoGS, a method that automatically selects the number of Gaussian primitives for 3D Gaussian Splatting by combining capture-derived model sizing with training-based adaptation. The approach first estimates a learning allowance based on the capture’s total pixels, then adjusts the number of Gaussians during training according to reconstruction quality. On standard benchmarks, TangoGS matches the best baseline’s PSNR while using 48% fewer Gaussians, and on larger captures it scales automatically to achieve the highest mean PSNR with 2.3× more Gaussians.

Budgeted-GS: Real-Time Large-Scale Gaussian Splatting via Factoring LOD

Budgeted-GS is a post‑hoc technique that transforms any trained 3D Gaussian Splatting model into a factoring tree—a multi‑resolution hierarchy of moment‑matched aggregates. After a brief construction pass, a single quality parameter selects the appropriate level of detail for each view, allowing the same city‑scale model to run in real time on GPUs with varying memory capacities. The method also informs budget‑centered training, enabling models to be built directly at the necessary size and avoiding wasted optimization of later discarded primitives.

SlugTrails: An Egocentric Benchmark for Floor Plan Localization in Large Buildings

SlugTrails is a new egocentric benchmark for floor‑plan‑based indoor visual localization in large buildings, featuring 30 Hz Aria glasses recordings across three campus buildings and six floors (22 089 m²). The dataset includes CAD‑derived floor plans with semantic classes, circulation masks, and laser‑surveyed anchors, and supports three realistic sensing protocols: single walking frames, stationary multi‑view sweeps, and walking streams with odometry. Evaluation of five geometric and learned systems shows that stock models perform poorly, but fine‑tuning on SlugTrails significantly improves performance and cross‑dataset generalization, indicating that data scarcity limits current localization methods.

VOIM: Training-Free Open-Vocabulary 3D Instance Mapping for RGB-D and Monocular SLAM

VOIM (Voxel‑Grounded Online Instance Manager) is a training‑free system that builds open‑vocabulary 3D instance maps from RGB‑D or monocular RGB input by deferring label and instance decisions until sufficient soft evidence accumulates per voxel across views. Across four perception configurations on ScanNet++, VOIM outperforms the strongest online RGB‑D system, OVO‑SLAM, by 4.8–11.7 mIoU, and achieves 44.07 mIoU under a like‑for‑like protocol, winning all ten scenes. The method also runs unchanged on monocular RGB, matching baseline performance on Replica, and produces exportable occupancy grids that support free‑form instance queries.

Seeing Is Not Measuring: Tool-Augmented Metric Spatial Reasoning for Vision-Language Models

The paper introduces a tool‑augmented framework that enhances a small Vision‑Language Model (Qwen3.5‑4B) with geometric tools—3D object detection, metric depth estimation, and deterministic solvers for distance, size, and bearing—to improve metric spatial reasoning. By moving metric computation from the model’s weights into explicit solvers, the approach achieves significant gains on ReVSI‑Bench tasks, notably increasing absolute distance accuracy from 0.46 to 0.74 MRA and relative direction accuracy from 25.9% to 73.4%. The modular design allows swapping in different detectors, enabling a clear separation between perception and reasoning errors, and the model can autonomously sequence the tools to match a scripted pipeline on most tasks.

Beyond Argmax: A Mechanistic Study of Semantic Retention in Frozen Foundation-Model Composition for Generalized Few-Shot 3D Segmentation

The paper investigates how much semantic information is lost when frozen foundation models are combined for few‑shot 3D segmentation. By varying the number of retained semantic alternatives before fusion, the authors show that keeping the full distribution of class scores yields higher harmonic‑mean IoU than collapsing to a single class. Experiments on ScanNet200 and ScanNet++ confirm that full‑distribution fusion consistently outperforms top‑1 and other operators, and that most useful information is recovered by retaining a compact set of plausible alternatives.
