The paper introduces a controlled benchmark for evaluating large language models (LLMs) on key‑value pair extraction from documents with varying levels of OCR noise. It tests 136 configurations across five instruction‑tuned open‑weight LLMs, three datasets, and four text‑quality conditions, using deterministic decoding to generate 17,688 document‑level inferences. The study finds that clean‑text performance does not reliably predict real‑world robustness, model rankings can reverse under noisy conditions, and few‑shot demonstrations do not always improve accuracy, highlighting reliability risks in OCR‑to‑LLM pipelines.

TeleOCR is a unified framework for document parsing that tackles challenges in both decoupled and end-to-end Vision‑Language Models. It introduces deformation‑aware learning to handle geometric distortions, an adaptive sampling mechanism for complex layouts, and a content‑structure decoupled strategy to model formula grammars and table structures. The approach achieves state‑of‑the‑art results on multiple benchmarks, including top placement in the ICDAR 2026 Sci‑ImageMiner Challenge.

The paper introduces a benchmark for evaluating open‑source instruction‑tuned large language models (LLMs) on key‑value pair extraction from documents under both clean‑text and noisy OCR conditions. It tests decoder‑only models such as Gemma, Mistral, Qwen2.5, LLaMA 3, and DeepSeek on FUNSD, CORD, and SROIE datasets, using OCR outputs from PaddleOCR, EasyOCR, and Tesseract. Results show that while modern LLMs perform well on high‑quality text, their performance drops sharply with OCR noise, and the main determinants of success are semantic reasoning and textual fidelity, with larger models offering diminishing returns under noisy inputs.

PixVL introduces a self‑supervised post‑training framework for pixel‑level multimodal large language models, addressing the scarcity of mask‑text pairs and optimization interference between region segmentation and region understanding. It employs a unified Mask‑Text Consistency Cycle that generates and self‑verifies regional descriptions using confuser‑aware semantic verification and cross‑view verification, while a quality‑coupled bidirectional learning strategy turns segmentation and understanding into mutual generators and verifiers. Experiments show that PixVL improves performance on both region understanding and segmentation tasks.

Doc‑CoB introduces a Chain‑of‑Boxes framework that enhances document understanding by progressively focusing on query‑relevant layout regions while preserving global context. It selects key layout boxes and then applies visual prompting for deeper analysis, supported by two new reasoning tasks and an automatic pipeline that generates 249k training samples with intermediate visual supervision. Experiments across seven benchmarks and four popular models demonstrate significant performance gains, underscoring the method’s effectiveness and broad applicability.

The paper investigates the gap between retrieval and reading in document vision‑language models, showing that even when the correct page is retrieved, the model often fails to use the text on that page. By comparing answers derived from page images alone versus images plus extracted OCR text, the authors demonstrate that adding OCR text can improve strict accuracy by 13 to 16 points on their FoveDoc‑Bench benchmark. The study also reveals that OCR benefits textual evidence but not charts or figures, and that its advantage diminishes as retrieval quality worsens.
