Auto-DSM Under the Lens: A Black-Box Evaluation Framework for LLM-Based DSM Generation

This paper presents a black-box evaluation framework to systematically assess the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate Design Structure Matrices (DSMs) from structured technical documentation. Motivated by the closed-source nature of current Auto-DSM pipelines, the framework introduces a reproducible methodology that benchmarks generated DSMs (GEN-DSMs) against manually validated ground-truth matrices (GT-DSMs).

A Framework and Prototype for a Navigable Map of Datasets in Engineering Design and Systems Engineering

The paper proposes a systematic framework for creating a "Map of Datasets in Engineering Design and Systems Engineering" (EDSE) to address the fragmented and inaccessible nature of existing datasets. It introduces a multi‑dimensional taxonomy that classifies datasets by domain, lifecycle stage, data type, and format, and presents an interactive discovery tool built on a knowledge graph data model. The authors analyze the current data landscape, identify underrepresented areas such as early‑stage design and system architecture, and suggest strategies for curation and sustainability to build a dynamic, community‑driven resource.

Enabling Knowledge Graph Understanding at Scale with the EXplore Your Graphs ENgine (EXYGEN)

The paper introduces EXYGEN, a framework that enables conversational access to large knowledge graphs by combining VoID descriptions, ShEx schemas, retrieved triples, and example question‑query pairs in a retrieval‑augmented generation pipeline. On the SciQA benchmark, this approach achieves an exact‑match score of 0.419 without fine‑tuning any large language model, and shows that larger general‑purpose LLMs can outperform smaller code‑specialized ones when provided sufficient context. To scale metadata generation for very large KGs, the authors propose a predicate‑coverage‑aware parallel graph sampling strategy that preserves structural diversity, reduces runtime by over 80× on OpenCitations Meta and GESIS, and is the only tractable method for obtaining complete metadata on ORKG.

Large Language Models and their Awareness of Mechanics and Spatial Geometry

arXiv:2608. 14615v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) perform well on established code-generation and mathematical-reasoning benchmarks, but their capabilities in mechanics and spatial geometry, here denoted as mechanical engineering awareness, has not been quantified systematically.

Harness Engineering in LLM Tool Use via Agent-Native Reusable Tool Primitives

The paper introduces Tool Primitives, a design that replaces rigid API schemas with natural language interfaces for tool calling, enabling seamless inter-tool communication. It builds ToolFace, a repository of over 25,000 functions that LLMs can dynamically retrieve, and HEART, a harness engineering framework that orchestrates tool use with planning, routing, and verification. Experiments show HEART outperforms fine‑tuned models and leading commercial LLMs while cutting API costs by up to 85%.
