FVH-Bench: Evaluating Image Generator Safety Beyond Overtly Harmful Imagery

The paper introduces FVH-Bench, a benchmark designed to evaluate image generators for functional visual harm (FVH)—the risk posed by images that enable dangerous actions or deception rather than merely depicting overtly harmful content. FVH-Bench contains 669 prompts across five harmful visual functions and ten risk domains, and tests 11 image generators, many of which rarely refuse these prompts and often produce artifacts that fulfill the targeted harmful functions. The study also shows that existing safety detectors provide limited coverage of FVH, highlighting gaps in current safety alignment assessments.

InGuard: Towards Generalized Inner Guardrail for Safe Text-to-Image Generation

InGuard introduces an inner guardrail for text-to-image generation that operates within the model’s own representations, avoiding external classifiers. It grades prompts using the text encoder’s embeddings, modifies risky embeddings with SAGE to produce safe images, and employs a latent detector to halt generation early. Evaluated on the RevGen Safety Benchmark, InGuard achieves a 97.9–98.8% safety rate across five open-weight models while reducing benign disturbances, model parameters, and denoising steps.

COMIC: Reference-Aware Safety Gating for Multimodal Large Language Models

The paper introduces COMIC, a reference‑aware safety gate designed for multimodal large language models (MLLMs). COMIC detects the operation requested by a user, identifies visual targets through OCR and open‑vocabulary proposals, and evaluates safety on explicit operation‑target pairs, using max‑risk aggregation and quality‑aware routing to decide whether to allow or block a request. Experiments on several open‑source MLLMs and jailbreak benchmarks show that COMIC improves robustness while maintaining benign utility and efficiency.

VPA-Guard: Defending and Benchmarking Image-to-Video Generation Against Visual Prompt Attacks

Recent advancements in Image-to-Video (I2V) generation have transformed input images from simple appearance references into interactive control interfaces where visual cues such as arrows, sketches, and emojis orchestrate complex video dynamics with unprecedented controllability. However, these seemingly innocuous static cues can be interpreted by models as executable temporal instructions, unfolding into harmful actions in the generated videos.

AEGIS: A Mechanism-Guided Defense against Visual Synonym Jailbreaks in Text-to-Image Models

Text-to-image diffusion models have achieved high visual fidelity and broad adoption, but remain vulnerable to safety violations when adversaries exploit them to synthesize illicit content. Existing alignment paradigms, from input sanitization to structural feature pruning, are largely organized around unsafe concepts explicitly exposed during filtering, editing, or localization.

Harm is not Universal: Community-Specific Toxicity Detection is Urgently Needed

arXiv:2607. 24898v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: State-of-the-art toxicity detectors for text-to-image generation adopt a one-size-fits-all approach: a single universal model applying fixed safety guidelines to all users.

False Claims, Credible Images: A Red-Teaming Benchmark for Commercial Image Generators

The paper introduces EpiReal-Bench, a benchmark of 10,000 false-claim prompts and corresponding images designed to test visual misinformation risks in commercial image generators. It also presents EpiReal-Attack, a black-box optimization framework that can bypass alignment safeguards, increasing the success rate of generating misleading images from 70% to 95%. Experiments on four commercial models show that these generators can produce credible visual evidence for false claims, highlighting a blind spot in current alignment methods.

Visual Compliance via Executable Safety Rule Entailment

GuardEn is an executable safeguard framework that transforms complex safety policies into atomic propositions via Safety‑Rule Compilation and models their composition as executable code. At inference, Scene‑Grounded Execution uses visual scene graphs to instantiate these propositions, allowing rule‑grounded and interpretable safety reasoning. Experiments on SafetyVisionBench show GuardEn improves F1 by an average of 9.8 points over the strongest baseline.
