Video-HolmesV2: Can MLLMs Reason with Spatio-Temporal Audio-Visual Evidence in Long Videos?

Video-HolmesV2 is a new benchmark that tests multimodal large language models on their ability to reason with spatio‑temporal audio‑visual evidence in long videos. It requires models to justify answers with precise evidence, uses a multi‑model cross‑verification pipeline and a spatio‑temporal evidence‑aware metric, and introduces an audio‑text guided token compression framework to reduce long‑context noise. In evaluations, even strong proprietary models score below 60% while the proposed approach outperforms comparable open‑source omni‑models.

From Visual Cues to Spoken Narration: Rethinking Audio Description

The paper introduces Cue2Narrate, a two‑stage pipeline that jointly predicts what visual events to narrate and when to insert the narration in long, untrimmed movie clips. It uses a dual‑head audio‑visual localizer to identify visual cue and narration windows, followed by a LoRA‑adapted vision‑language model that generates concise audio descriptions, trained with a Description Ranking Loss. The authors also present the LongLSMDC benchmark, comprising up to 8‑minute clips, and show that Cue2Narrate outperforms video‑only and audio‑only baselines by 5–12 points in average mAP and improves AD generation over fine‑tuned base VLMs.

EvaOmni: An Evidence-Grounded Benchmark for Audio-Visual Reasoning

EvaOmni is a new evidence‑grounded benchmark for audio‑visual reasoning, comprising 392 videos and 1,027 human‑annotated question‑answer pairs that span 15 capabilities and three difficulty levels. The benchmark requires models to provide both an answer and the supporting audio‑visual evidence intervals, and introduces Coverage Grounded (C.G.) and Bottleneck Grounded (B.G.) scores to evaluate evidence identification and temporal localization. Across 24 Omni LLMs, Gemini3.7‑Flash achieved the highest overall accuracy, yet its B.G. scores reveal significant room for improvement in grounded reasoning.

OmniHallu: Unified Hallucination Detection for Cross-Modal Comprehension and Generation in Multimodal Large Language Models

OmniHallu is a unified framework for detecting hallucinations in multimodal large language models across both comprehension and generation tasks involving image, video, and audio modalities. It introduces OmniHallu-Bench, a 10,000-sample benchmark with claim-level human annotations for six cross-modal tasks (I2T, V2T, A2T, T2I, T2V, T2A). The system uses a multi‑agent architecture that decomposes outputs into atomic claims, verifies them with modality‑specific experts, and aggregates evidence through structured reasoning, while a preference‑optimized verifier reduces expert calls by 66% with minimal performance loss.

Diagnosing and Correcting Bias in MLLM for Long Video Understanding

The paper introduces S‑MME, a benchmark for diagnosing shortcut‑biased behavior in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) on long‑video question answering. It proposes CLEAR, a training‑free framework that estimates and mitigates bias by treating the full video‑question pair as a complete view and intervening on hidden states during inference. Experiments on five benchmarks demonstrate that CLEAR improves prediction accuracy and robustness across different MLLMs.

From Sounds to Scenes: A Benchmark for Evaluating Context-Aware Auditory Scene Understanding in Large Audio Language Models

Recent Large Audio Language Models (LALMs) have achieved remarkable progress in audio perceptual tasks across individual acoustic layers, including speech, sound, and music. However, existing benchmarks predominantly evaluate these layers in isolation, overlooking the complex contextual relationships that arise when multiple acoustic sources co-occur in real-world auditory scenes.

VideoLVR: Latent Visual Reasoning over Grounded Video Evidence

VideoLVR introduces a method for multimodal large language models to maintain visual grounding during chain-of-thought reasoning by constructing latent visual evidence from local video regions at relevant moments. It uses a visual token prediction objective that unifies visual evidence reconstruction and text generation, allowing models to interleave text tokens with latent visual states. The approach is further extended with reinforcement learning, treating visual tokens as actions and optimizing policies with final-answer rewards, thereby improving video understanding without expanding the multimodal context.

Mind The Gap (MTG-AD): Dataset and Fine-grained Evaluation for End-to-End Inline Audio Descriptions

The paper introduces MTG-AD, a 36‑hour dataset of professionally annotated inline audio descriptions for videos, created by blind and sighted professionals. It also presents MTG‑AD‑Eval, a reference‑free evaluation framework that measures how well generated descriptions fit within a video’s natural silences, providing fine‑grained metrics aligned with expert guidelines. Experiments show that while large multimodal language models can reduce speech overlaps, gaps remain in pacing, and users find the model‑generated descriptions highly beneficial for comprehension.
