Virtual-Alloy Physics-Aware Semantic System for extrapolative prediction of perovskite solar cells

The paper introduces V-PaSS, a physics‑aware semantic system that predicts perovskite solar cell performance by interpolating crystal graphs of 23 pure $ABX_3$ compounds using Vegard’s law and learned bandgap bowing. It couples device stack information—including layer sequence, polarity, and interfacial band offsets—with a scientific language model to encode chemical descriptions. In an institution‑grouped evaluation, V‑PaSS outperforms fourteen baseline models, achieving the lowest mean absolute error (2.861%) and demonstrating significant gains on unseen absorber alloys, new laboratory samples, and devices with unobserved transport layers.

Provenance-grouped protocol for evaluating machine learning in perovskite photovoltaics

The paper introduces a provenance‑grouped protocol for evaluating machine‑learning models on perovskite solar cell data, addressing the problem of data leakage caused by duplicate devices across institutions. By mapping institutional provenance and creating hierarchical grouped splits that isolate duplicates, the authors benchmark thirteen models and find that tree ensembles excel on random splits but fail on genuinely unseen institutions, where neural architectures perform best. The study also shows that device architecture and fabrication methods are as influential as absorber chemistry for efficiency, providing a standardized framework to distinguish memorisation from true physical discovery.

MatMind: A Structure-Activity Knowledge-Driven Generative Foundation Model for Materials Science

arXiv:2606. 07712v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Progress in AI-driven crystal materials science has so far been carried by narrow architectures purpose-built for individual tasks -- graph neural networks for property prediction, diffusion and flow-matching models for crystal generation -- each excelling within its niche yet unable to act as a shared backbone across the full spectrum of materials problems.

uFlowCSP: Crystal Structure Prediction using Mean flow generative models

uFlowCSP is a MeanFlow-based crystal structure prediction model that learns the average probability‑flow velocity, enabling it to generate complete crystal structures in one to five network evaluations. It achieves inference speeds 5×–58× faster than diffusion and flow‑matching methods while matching or surpassing their performance, with a chemistry‑ and symmetry‑aware Transformer that uses canonical atom ordering and per‑token chemistry embeddings. On the MP‑20 benchmark, uFlowCSP attains comparable or higher accuracy with far fewer evaluations and significantly lower wall‑clock time, demonstrating improved accuracy per network evaluation.

A single design choice determines whether machine learning models of materials make physically impossible predictions

The article demonstrates that a single design decision—whether a machine‑learning model’s features include parity labels—determines if the model can ever predict physically impossible values for material properties. Using group‑theoretical analysis, the authors introduce the parity gap criterion to identify which properties and crystal symmetries are affected. Experiments on 2,000 centrosymmetric crystals show that parity‑labelled models achieve exact zero predictions for forbidden piezoelectric responses, whereas models lacking parity labels produce large errors, yet both maintain comparable overall accuracy.

SCALE: Simulation-Calibrated Amortized Learning for Energy Materials (A hybrid architecture connecting deterministic modeling, real-world data, and transformer-scale inference for accelerated energy-materials discovery)

SCALE (Simulation‑Calibrated Amortized Learning for Energy Materials) is a physics‑grounded learning architecture that fuses deterministic scientific operators, experimental calibration, and transformer‑scale inference to accelerate the discovery of energy materials. It converts expensive mechanistic computations and measured data into reusable models for rapid screening, ranking, inverse design, and active learning. In a case study on solid‑state metal‑hydride hydrogen‑storage, SCALE calibrated a phase‑equilibrium capacity operator against 381 experimental anchors, generated 5,000 teacher labels, and used a 2.90‑million‑parameter edge‑biased graph transformer to achieve high surrogate fidelity (MAE 0.0582 wt% H₂, RMSE 0.0833 wt% H₂, R² 0.9927, Pearson r 0.9963) while reducing per‑candidate screening cost by 10⁷–10⁸ times.
