Adversarial LassoNet: Robust Feature Selection via Stability-Driven Sparse Learning

arXiv:2607. 03839v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Sparse feature selection is critical for high-dimensional machine learning, yet traditional $\ell_1$-regularized methods are often brittle under observational noise and spurious correlations, leading to unstable feature supports and degraded generalization.

Interpretable AI with Local Distillation

Interpretable AI with Local Distillation proposes a method where a black‑box teacher model guides a regularized linear student model at each query point. The teacher defines locality by upweighting training observations with similar predicted outcomes and anchors the fit with its own prediction at the query point, treated as a pseudo‑observation. By adding Gaussian randomization and refitting, the approach identifies reliable features and stable subgroups, achieving near‑teacher accuracy while producing sparse, locally interpretable linear models.

Fast Preemptive Robustification: High-Frequency Response Anti-Aligns Shared Vulnerability

The paper introduces Fast Preemptive Robustification (FPR), a lightweight defense that enhances the robustness of deep neural networks against transferable adversarial attacks. By sharpening Laplacian responses through a single 3×3 channel‑wise convolution, FPR eliminates the need for surrogate models, iterative optimization, or specialized training. Experiments show that FPR lowers untargeted attack success rates by 12.7% and reduces targeted attack success from 10.7% to 4.1%.

SAEs Can Improve Unlearning: Dynamic Sparse Autoencoder Guardrails for Precision Unlearning in LLMs

The paper introduces Dynamic DAE Guardrails (DSG), a method that uses Dynamic Sparse Autoencoders to perform precision unlearning in large language models. DSG leverages principled feature selection and a dynamic classifier to target activation-based unlearning, outperforming existing gradient‑based methods in terms of computational efficiency, stability, sequential unlearning, resistance to relearning attacks, data efficiency, and interpretability.

Efficient Cross-Validation for Sparse Linear Regression

arXiv:2306. 14851v5 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Given a high-dimensional covariate matrix and a response vector, ridge-regularized sparse linear regression selects a subset of features that explains the relationship between covariates and the response in an interpretable manner.
