EDMA: Entropy-Driven Multimodal Answering

EDMA: Entropy-Driven Multimodal Answering introduces a framework that formalises multimodal question answering as an iterative entropy‑reduction process. By quantifying each modality’s contribution through logical entropy, EDMA constructs measurable answering trajectories and employs entropy‑driven fusion and selection to minimise logical entropy. Across standard MMQA benchmarks, EDMA surpasses prompting baselines, achieving significant gains in F1 and LLM‑J scores, and demonstrates that higher entropy correlates with more false positives, validating entropy as a reliable performance proxy.

VISPATH: Visual-Intent-Guided Path Reasoning for Multimodal Knowledge Graph Question Answering

VISPATH is a visual‑intent‑guided path reasoning framework designed for multimodal knowledge graph question answering (MM‑KGQA). It first identifies a reliable starting entity by fusing multimodal grounding with graph‑structural cues, then iteratively discovers and refines reasoning paths using hop‑specific multimodal intent and a reasoning‑chain pruning step. The framework is evaluated on the newly introduced VISPATH‑Bench, which tests two‑to‑four‑hop reasoning, and demonstrates consistent improvements over strong baselines, even surpassing GPT‑5.4 when using GPT‑4o as the backbone.

Beyond Surface Imitation: Contrastive Modeling for Reasoning Path Alignment in Multimodal In-Context Learning

The paper introduces a multimodal in‑context learning framework that uses contrastive demonstration modeling to align large language models’ responses with the required reasoning paths. By contrasting suboptimal and better responses and incorporating a response‑conditioned retrieval mechanism, the method explicitly guides models beyond surface imitation. Experiments on various multimodal tasks, especially visual question answering, show consistent performance gains.

When to Rethink: Learning Multi-Perspective Self-Verification for Vision-Language Models

The paper introduces MOTIVE, a multi-view self-verification framework for vision-language models that evaluates candidate answers from complementary perspectives and learns a reliability score aligned with correctness. By using this score to decide whether to accept an answer or trigger history-guided rethinking, MOTIVE improves reliability and efficiency compared to existing self-verification and self-correction methods. Extensive experiments on diverse multimodal benchmarks and VLM backbones show consistent performance gains and reduced unnecessary reasoning turns.

Selection-Based Structured Reasoning: Toward Efficient Multimodal Search Agents

Selection-Based Structured Reasoning (SSR) is a framework that replaces free-form reasoning with the selection of pre-specified natural‑language reasoning candidates, allowing multimodal agents to choose from a set of reusable high‑level reasoning traces. By scoring these candidates in parallel using a shared context KV cache, SSR eliminates the need for an auxiliary task head and reduces inference cost. Experiments on seven multimodal search benchmarks with 2B and 4B models show that SSR maintains competitive success rates while cutting per‑turn reasoning latency by over 90% and overall inference latency by 28–54%.
