Understanding Parents' Complex Views of AI for Children's Pretend Play

The study explores U.S. parents’ nuanced views on AI’s role in children’s pretend play, revealing that while parents see potential benefits—such as making role-based play more accessible and enabling family participation—they also express significant concerns about AI’s influence on imagination, emotional attachment, and family dynamics. Through semi‑structured interviews and thematic analysis, parents identified both the usefulness and risks of AI’s character‑assumption, responsiveness, and adaptability, and emphasized the need for clear understanding, long‑term impact assessment, and parental control. The research underscores that AI’s appropriateness in play settings hinges on technical safeguards, parental oversight, and further longitudinal investigation. whyItMatters:"The findings highlight parents’ dual expectations and apprehensions, indicating that any deployment of AI in children’s play must address both safety and developmental considerations as identified by caregivers."

"AI Is Turning Too Human": How Teenagers Experience and Negotiate AI in Everyday Life

The study examines how teenagers discuss and navigate generative AI in their daily lives, using data from r/teenagers between January 2023 and July 2026. Analysis of 11,083 posts identified eight interconnected domains of experience, with everyday and social use being most common. Over time, discussions shifted toward concerns about authenticity, personal control, safety, and the future role of humans versus AI, highlighting adolescents’ active negotiation of AI’s place in their lives.

Autonomy, Social Norms, and Alignment: Towards a Developmental Framework for Autonomous Artificial Agents

The paper proposes a developmental framework for autonomous artificial agents that emphasizes learning social norms and alignment through direct interaction with dynamic environments. It argues that intrinsic motivations such as curiosity and competence can guide exploration, but also complicate alignment with human goals. By drawing parallels to child development, the authors suggest that regulatory sandboxes serve as pedagogical spaces where agents gradually acquire moral agency and adapt their behaviors through experience and cooperation.

Role-Aware Artificial Intelligence Across Augmentation and Automation in Human-Machine Symbiosis

The paper explores how to trace the functional role of AI in natural language generation, distinguishing between AI acting as an assistive editor or a creative generator. It proposes a methodology that infers the latent role from prompts, embeds it during generation, and recovers the role from the output. Experiments demonstrate that the approach can discriminate roles, remains robust to perturbations, and preserves linguistic quality.
