FederatedBytes: Tokenizer-Free, Byte-Level Small Language Models for Efficient Multimodal Federated Learning

FederatedBytes is a small language model that processes text and multimodal data at the byte level, eliminating the need for tokenization. It uses a linear attention mechanism to keep memory and computational demands low, making it suitable for federated learning scenarios. Experiments on multilingual sentiment analysis tasks show that FederatedBytes outperforms models like ByT5 and LSTM, achieving higher accuracy while reducing memory and communication overheads.

MoR-MLLM: Mixture of Recursions for Efficient Multimodal Large Language Models

MoR-MLLM introduces a computation-sparse multimodal large language model that uses adaptive per-token recursion to dynamically adjust recursive depth. This approach allocates more computation to visually or linguistically challenging tokens while skipping redundant operations for simpler ones. A three-stage MoR-Tuning strategy and entropy-regularized loss stabilize training, enabling the model to reduce training memory and computation complexity while maintaining high performance on vision-language tasks.
