Grounded Human-Attributed Description and Activity Recognition in Videos

The paper introduces Grounded Human-Attributed Description and Activity Recognition (GHADAR), a task that requires describing the characteristics and activities of every person in a video given their locations. It presents a new dataset derived from AVA-Actions with open‑set captions, a method that constrains cross‑attention masks in vision‑language models to better use grounding information, and a holistic VLM‑based evaluation schema that compares concepts directly between video and predictions. Experiments show the proposed method surpasses state‑of‑the‑art VLMs and highlight limitations of existing evaluation metrics.

Can Vision-Language Models Analyze Human-Centered Video? Mapping Model Capabilities and Human-AI Collaborative Workflows

The paper investigates when vision‑language models (VLMs) can independently analyze human‑centered video and when human oversight is still needed. By reviewing 1,702 CHI 2026 papers, the authors develop a five‑dimensional taxonomy of video annotation tasks and build a benchmark of 15 representative tasks. Experiments show that VLMs alone achieve near‑human accuracy (HNS = 97.0), while human verification of VLM outputs yields the highest accuracy (HNS = 121.5) and significantly reduces annotation time and cost.

ReText: Text Boosts Generalization in Image-Based Person Re-identification

ReText is a method that enhances image-based person re-identification by incorporating textual descriptions into training. The authors augment existing multi-camera datasets with captions generated by a fine‑tuned Vision‑Language Model and train the system on three tasks: Re-ID, image‑text matching, and image reconstruction guided by text. Experiments show that ReText improves generalization across unseen domains and outperforms current state‑of‑the‑art approaches on cross‑domain Re‑ID benchmarks.

OmniVBench: A Benchmark and Large-Scale Dataset for Omni Reference-to-Video Generation

OmniVBench introduces a comprehensive benchmark and a large-scale dataset for omni reference-to-video (R2V) generation, addressing gaps in existing evaluations that focus only on limited reference types and holistic consistency. The benchmark expands evaluation across 7 task families and 18 fine-grained tasks, covering content, motion, style, structure, narrative, and multi-reference settings, and employs a factor‑grounded evaluation with 12,172 checklist items to assess preservation, disentanglement, and routing of reference factors. The accompanying Omni‑R2V Dataset provides 340K training samples derived from professional video footage, along with task‑specific pipelines for scalable data construction, enabling broader research and revealing performance gaps in current R2V models.

Temporally-Grounded Language Generation: Towards Real-Time Vision-Language Models

The paper introduces Temporally-Grounded Language Generation (TGLG), a benchmark that tests vision‑language models on their ability to produce semantically accurate and temporally precise utterances in real‑time settings. It identifies perceptual updating and contingency awareness as key capabilities, curates datasets from sports broadcasting and egocentric interactions, and proposes the TRACE metric to jointly evaluate semantic similarity and temporal alignment. The authors also present VLM‑TSI, a model that interleaves visual and linguistic tokens in a time‑synchronized manner, achieving better performance than a strong baseline yet still showing modest overall results, underscoring the challenge of real‑time VLMs.
