INLA for Adaptive UAV Sampling of Radio Environment Maps in IoT Networks: Prior Width Governs Accuracy and Calibration

The paper investigates adaptive UAV sampling for constructing radio environment maps (REMs) from non‑Gaussian IoT observations using Integrated Nested Laplace Approximation (INLA) to update a Matérn Gaussian Markov random field posterior. Waypoints are chosen via entropy pre‑screening and a Sherman–Morrison lookahead, and the study finds that widening the prior shadowing standard deviation consistently improves NMSE and credible‑interval coverage across multiple ray‑traced windows, while online width estimation from UAV counts does not recover this gain. Comparative analyses show that posterior‑informed sampling outperforms random and lawnmower strategies, but differences among informative acquisition rules remain unresolved.

Readout and Operating-Point Sensitivity in Event-Stream Candidate Selection

The paper evaluates how readout settings and operating points affect event-stream candidate selection in event-triggered recording. Using 520 DailyDVS‑200 clips and 47 participants, the authors compare several encoder configurations—including DINO‑CLS, patch mean, and MobileNetV3‑Small—across different accumulation durations and view counts, reporting metrics such as target capture, false triggers, and partial AUC. The study finds that lightweight baselines and specific operating points significantly influence performance, while no clear advantage is observed for the JEPA‑specific method.

WONDER: A Radio World Model-based Negotiation Framework for Multi-Agent UAV Coverage Optimization

The paper introduces WONDER, a radio world‑model‑based negotiation framework designed to optimize multi‑UAV coverage for rapid post‑disaster wireless restoration. WONDER employs a Joint‑Embedding Predictive Architecture to forecast the incremental radio impact of candidate UAV trajectories and uses multi‑round negotiation to sequentially commit trajectories while updating the context. Experiments in the RadioDynamics simulation environment demonstrate that WONDER outperforms six other methods, achieving a balanced score of 0.870 and a 0.162 coverage advantage over STACCA while preserving full UAV connectivity.

Selection-Safe Conformal Early Exit: Distribution-Free Coverage under Adaptive Depth

The paper introduces a selection‑safe conformal early‑exit method that calibrates a single split‑conformal quantile using a terminal‑path score derived from prefix maxima. This approach guarantees coverage for any data‑dependent stopping policy that preserves terminal‑set containment, without requiring an α/L correction. Empirical results on eight encoder backbones and CIFAR‑100 show that pathwise selection achieves higher macro coverage (0.901 vs. 0.814) with smaller set sizes and lower latency fractions compared to naive layer‑wise selection, and remains robust to deployment‑time budget changes.

Revalidation Beats Stateful Routing for Scientific Surrogates Under Distribution Shift

The study introduces RegimeShift‑Surrogates, a streaming benchmark that tests surrogate models across eight tasks and multiple regimes. It compares revalidation—choosing the model with lowest current‑window validation loss—to stateful adaptive controllers and finds that revalidation consistently outperforms stateful methods, achieving lower mean log regret in most task‑scenario combinations. The results suggest that fresh validation evidence is more valuable than carrying over past evidence when dealing with distribution shifts.

Available Guardrails: Certifying Selective Prediction across ML Systems

The paper introduces a method to certify selective prediction in machine learning systems by computing the availability of safety gates through exact-binomial inversion and dynamic programming. It demonstrates that a truth-informed planner can significantly improve mean coverage over naive approaches, and that reallocating error budgets further enhances coverage across diverse applications such as LLM tool‑calling, content moderation, lesion classification, and recommendation. The study highlights the importance of planning and finite‑sample estimation in ensuring reliable, granular deployment of selective predictors.
