CS-CLIP is a vision‑language model that improves compositional reasoning by using scene graphs to identify compositional elements and create structured negative examples through selective masking. The approach retains only the most contradictory negatives, encouraging the model to depend on compositional structure instead of surface cues. CS-CLIP achieves state‑of‑the‑art performance on compositional reasoning benchmarks while maintaining strong cross‑modal retrieval and downstream visual reasoning capabilities with fewer training samples.

UReason is a benchmark that evaluates how well unified multimodal models (UMMs) align textual reasoning with image generation. It contains 2,000 human‑curated instances across five reasoning‑intensive tasks—Code, Arithmetic, Spatial, Attribute, and Text—and compares direct generation, reasoning‑guided generation, and decontextualized generation. The study finds that while reasoning‑guided generation improves over direct generation, decontextualized generation consistently outperforms it, indicating that the visual semantics in textual reasoning are not reliably reflected in the generated images.

The paper introduces LIRSeg, a method that replaces explicit Chain-of-Thought reasoning in multimodal large language models with a compact set of learnable latent tokens for reasoning segmentation. LIRSeg is trained in two stages—spatial alignment and GRPO—while employing extreme-advantage sampling, decoupled exploration-stability updates, and latent diversity amplification to enhance token informativeness. Experiments show that LIRSeg improves segmentation accuracy and reasoning efficiency, achieving significant gIoU gains over the VisionReasoner baseline and reducing reasoning tokens by about 16×.

The paper introduces ReImaGin, a method that uses image generation models as a flexible visual reasoning tool for multimodal large language models. Unlike traditional fixed-function vision tools, ReImaGin accepts natural language commands and can perform open-ended visual operations such as removing occlusions or creating floorplans from multiple views. Experiments on six diverse visual reasoning tasks show that ReImaGin outperforms both text-only reasoning and specialist vision-tool baselines, achieving up to a 25% improvement.

arXiv:2606. 17888v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning has extended from purely linguistic domains to multimodal scenarios; however, existing approaches often treat visual inputs as homogeneous or auxiliary signals, failing to capture the intricate and sample-specific dependencies between text and images in mathematical problem-solving.
