Verus-Insight: Towards Explainable Artifact Detection in AI-Generated Videos

Read the original on arXiv Computer Vision →

Verus-Insight is a new artifact detection framework for AI‑generated videos that treats detection as a structured process with three complementary capabilities: Inspection Planning, Evidence Verification, and Evidence Aggregation. The system is trained using human‑anchored full‑process supervision and progressive capability training, enabling it to perform fine‑grained artifact analysis and robust video‑level source prediction. A new benchmark, Verus‑Bench, provides fine‑grained human annotations of perceptible artifacts, and experiments show that Verus‑Insight outperforms existing methods in both artifact recovery and overall detection accuracy.

Dataset Biases and Shortcut Learning in Motion-Based AI-Generated Video Detection

The paper examines four leading motion‑based AI‑generated video detectors and finds that three of them suffer from preprocessing and sampling biases that inflate their reported performance. These detectors rely heavily on motion patterns—specifically, the lower inter‑frame movement typical of synthetic videos—so their accuracy drops to near random when tested on datasets lacking this bias or after simple spatial augmentations. In contrast, a frequency‑based detector remains robust across all datasets, indicating that frequency‑domain methods may generalize better for detecting AI‑generated videos.
