GRASP: GRanularity-Aware Search Policy for Agentic RAG

Agentic retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) extends static RAG by allowing language models to iteratively reason, generate search queries, retrieve evidence, and predict answers. However, it remains challenging for models to decide when to retrieve, whether to use lexical matching or semantic similarity, and how to control context granularity to prevent irrelevant tokens from interfering with agent reasoning.

DeepRefine: Agentic Knowledge Refinement via Reinforcement Learning

DeepRefine is a reinforcement learning framework that improves the quality of pre‑constructed structured knowledge bases—such as knowledge graphs or LLM‑Wikis—by engaging in multi‑turn interactions with the base. It performs abductive diagnosis to locate defects, then applies targeted refinement actions to incrementally update the knowledge base. The system uses a Gain‑Beyond‑Draft reward to train its refinement policy end‑to‑end, achieving consistent downstream performance gains over strong baselines.

Retrieval-augmented Decoding for Improving Truthfulness in Open-ended Generation

The paper introduces Retrieval-Augmented Decoding (RAD), a decoding-time method that improves the truthfulness of large language models without retraining. RAD uses a small reference set of up to ten annotated examples to build a grounding space of context embeddings and next-token logits, which it retrieves and aggregates during inference to shape the model’s output. Experiments on four open-ended generation benchmarks and four different LLMs show that RAD consistently outperforms strong baselines and generalizes well across tasks.
