PathoJev: Efficient Pathology Decisions from Shared Visual Context

Read the original on arXiv Computer Vision →

PathoJev is a pathology model that predicts answer probabilities for whole-slide and region-level assessments by encoding each slide once and evaluating multiple question suffixes in batches over a shared visual context. It reuses hybrid backbone recurrent states to limit computation growth with slide-context length, achieving mean accuracies of 77.2% and 78.1% on three whole-slide benchmarks and outperforming SlideChat by 5.4–6.3 percentage points. The 9B model runs 9.1× faster than SlideChat and accelerates multi-question workloads up to 11.2× for 64 questions, providing a reusable probabilistic interface for combining multiple visual judgments.

Simple Token-Efficient Vision-Language Model for Case-level Pathology Synoptic Report Generation

arXiv:2605. 30716v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Generating clinically useful pathology reports for pathology cases from whole-slide images (WSIs) is challenging due to gigapixel resolution, long visual-token sequences, and the complexity of case-level reasoning, where a single case may contain multiple WSIs with heterogeneous tissues and ambiguous findings.

Beyond Sparse Captions: Aligning Slide-Level Text and Patch-Level Vision in Pathology

The paper introduces Locked Image Multiple Instance PreTraining (LIMIT), a method that aligns slide‑level pathology reports with patch‑level visual features by freezing a vision encoder and fine‑tuning a text encoder. LIMIT uses report embeddings as cross‑attention queries over bags of patch features, optimizing slide representations via InfoNCE. Applying LIMIT, the authors create CONCH‑Z, which achieves state‑of‑the‑art zero‑shot performance on 22 pathology tasks, outperforming vision‑language encoders trained on curated caption datasets and narrowing the gap with larger slide‑level foundation models.
