OnTrack: Real-Time Monitoring and Intervention in LLM Agent Trajectories via Streaming Structure-Aware Optimal Transport

Read the original on arXiv AI →

OnTrack introduces a real‑time, streaming monitoring system for large language model agents that compares each step and its dependencies against recorded successful runs, enabling rapid alerts or blocking in roughly a millisecond per step. The method is evaluated across three data‑access regimes—from full historical data to only step logs—and demonstrates improved failure detection over content‑similarity baselines, achieving a 0.057 AUROC gain. In practical tests on SWE‑bench trajectories, OnTrack’s abort policy prevented 18% of wasted compute, correctly interrupting 83% of runs that would have failed.

PAUSE: Search-Free Steering of Coding Agents Before Their First Source-Code Edit

PAUSE is a steering framework for coding agents that intervenes once before the agent’s first source‑code edit, eliminating the need for learned monitors, checkpoint searches, or extra model calls. By having a Planner generate a repair plan from the task and pre‑edit transcript, the same agent can resume execution with this plan, preserving context and workspace. Experiments on SWE‑bench Verified and Multilingual show that PAUSE improves resolution rates by up to 16.8% online and recovers 35.4% of failed tasks offline, while reducing Executor token usage by 33‑41% compared to restarts.

BekchiAI: Measuring, Observing, and Controlling LLM Agents in One Click

BekchiAI introduces a benchmark and platform for evaluating large language model agents. The benchmark comprises 13 tool‑using ReAct agents across seven task categories, totaling 2,057 deterministic test tasks with verifier‑checkable gold answers. The platform offers web‑based observability, token and latency telemetry, and remote run termination for live agents.

Soei: Structured Observability of Evidence and Intent for Multi-Agent AI Software Engineering

The paper introduces Soei, a structured observability framework for AI coding agents, addressing the need to track what work was done, by whom, and whether it is finished. It evaluates an existing tool, Agenttrail, revealing inconsistencies and security gaps, and presents empirical findings from 45 real coding-agent sessions, highlighting issues such as unverified code edits and credential exposure. Soei comprises an event schema, hash‑chained ledger, PROV‑aligned graph, and verification layer, achieving efficient storage, fast verification, and tamper detection on the same dataset.

Beyond Suspicious Steps: Ontological Trust in Long-Horizon Agents

The paper introduces ontological trust, a task‑conditioned property of trajectory prefixes, and presents RGE, an online monitor that decomposes trust into Role, Goal, and Evidence. RGE uses LLMs only for structured task and step representations, while trust updates and interventions are deterministic, producing a replayable and auditable trust trajectory. Evaluated on a cross‑domain corpus, RGE outperforms rule‑, judge‑, and shield‑style baselines, achieving over 93% Drift F1 and maintaining high benign coverage.
