ElderBench: Benchmarking Autonomous Mobile Agents for Older Adults

Read the original on arXiv AI →

ElderBench is a new benchmark designed to evaluate autonomous mobile agents in scenarios that reflect the natural language patterns of older adults. It comprises 249 smartphone tasks collected from older users across 20 applications, highlighting linguistic differences such as indirect speech, referential ambiguity, and under-specified requests compared to existing GUI benchmarks. The study shows that mainstream GUI agents and Vision‑Language Models perform significantly worse on these elderly‑oriented instructions, and it offers insights into how specific language patterns lead to failures.

APPSim-Bench: Bridging Real-world Apps and Reproducible Evaluation for Mobile GUI Agents

APPSim-Bench is a new benchmark for mobile GUI agents that uses controllable simulated apps to balance realism and reproducibility. It includes 557 tasks across 17 popular Chinese and English apps, with a coding-agent-assisted and human-verified workflow that ensures deterministic evaluation. Evaluation of 19 agents shows that autonomous mobile execution is still far from perfect, with the best model completing only 50.27% of tasks and many failures in longer workflows and numerical reasoning.

Benchmarking General Mobile Assistants in Challenging Real-World Scenarios

The paper introduces GMA, a new benchmark for evaluating general mobile assistants in realistic, challenging scenarios. GMA expands on existing benchmarks by offering seven open‑source applications across diverse domains and 300 tasks organized into four difficulty tiers, ranging from simple actions to complex multi‑step workflows. The authors evaluate eight state‑of‑the‑art models, showing that performance drops sharply with task complexity, and conduct ablation studies on harness design—such as context retention and state tracking—to demonstrate how these choices can improve outcomes, especially for demanding workflows.

AgentLens: Adaptive Visual Modalities for Human-Agent Interaction in Mobile GUI Agents

AgentLens is a mobile GUI agent that adapts its visual communication during task execution, offering Full UI, Partial UI, and GenUI modalities. It uses a Virtual Display to allow background operation while selectively overlaying visual information. In a study with 21 participants, 85.7% preferred AgentLens, which also scored highest on usability and adoption intent.
