DriveVLM-RL: Neuroscience-Inspired Reinforcement Learning with Vision-Language Models for Safe and Deployable Autonomous Driving

arXiv:2603. 18315v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Traditional reinforcement learning (RL) methods rely on manually engineered rewards or sparse collision signals, which fail to capture the rich contextual understanding required for safe driving and make unsafe exploration unavoidable in real-world settings.

Dream to Assist: Intent-Conditioned World Models for Shared Vehicle Control

Dream2Assist is a model‑based reinforcement learning framework that extends a recurrent state‑space world model with intent inference to support shared vehicle control. The system is trained via fictitious co‑play to anticipate discrete human objectives without overriding agency, and includes a full deployment pipeline to translate the policy into a safe, human‑centered real‑world system. Validation through three human‑subject studies and on‑vehicle deployments in high‑speed racing and urban driving shows that intent conditioning improves torque alignment and reduces collision rates.

DriveJudge: Rethinking Autonomous Driving Evaluation with Vision-Language Models

arXiv:2606. 17362v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Autonomous driving has shifted towards end-to-end policy learning, where reliable, interpretable policy evaluation is a fundamental challenge as driving quality is highly context-dependent.

Closed-Loop Aware Planning via Imitation-Free Speed Scoring for End-to-End Autonomous Driving

The paper introduces Closed-Loop Aware Planning for Autonomous Driving (CLAP‑AD), a new planning head that learns a driving path via imitation while independently scoring candidate speeds using a learned function guided by safety constraints. Unlike traditional open‑loop imitation learning, CLAP‑AD allows explicit test‑time control over speed selection without requiring speed‑conditioned training. Experiments on Bench2Drive‑Speed, Bench2Drive, and NAVSIM v2 demonstrate significant improvements in speed‑adherence and overall driving performance compared to state‑of‑the‑art baselines.

CAR-VLA: Complexity-Aware and Risk-Adaptive Reasoning for Autonomous Driving

CAR‑VLA is a Vision‑Language‑Action model for autonomous driving that jointly considers scene complexity and dynamic risk to determine reasoning depth, urgency, and focus. It maps four complexity‑risk categories to three reasoning modes—Fast Intuition, Slow Thinking, and Reflex Response—each tailored to different driving scenarios. The model is trained via progressive supervised learning and reinforcement learning, achieving competitive performance on NAVSIM and Navhard benchmarks and demonstrating risk‑aware reasoning in high‑risk scenarios.
