Complexity-Calibrated Reconstruction Discrepancy for No-Reference Point Cloud Quality Assessment

Read the original on arXiv Computer Vision →

The paper introduces a no-reference point cloud quality assessment method that leverages a complexity‑calibrated reconstruction discrepancy. By reconstructing a distorted point cloud and comparing successive reconstructions with varying smoothing, the approach isolates a proxy for structural complexity, which is then used to calibrate the initial reconstruction error. The calibrated geometric and projected‑view discrepancies, measured with frozen pretrained perceptual representations, are fused into a final degradation score without requiring any PCQA‑specific training.

Mitigating Performance Discrepancy in Cross-Domain 3D Class-Incremental Learning

The paper addresses performance discrepancy in cross-domain 3D class‑incremental learning, where 3D point clouds from heterogeneous sources cause varying degrees of performance loss beyond catastrophic forgetting. The authors introduce the Domain3D‑CIL protocol and adapt existing CIL methods to 3D, showing consistent discrepancy across baselines. They propose PolyMem, an exemplar‑free approach that models high‑order feature statistics to improve cross‑domain robustness and reduce performance discrepancy.

Register Anything Model for Generalizable and Robust Point Cloud Registration

The paper introduces the Register Anything Model (RAM), a unified approach for 3D point cloud registration that can robustly estimate 6‑DoF transformations across a wide range of domains, including indoor, outdoor, and object scenes. RAM overcomes domain‑specific challenges by employing a geometry‑aware normalization that voxelizes and standardizes point clouds based on their geometric properties, followed by a hierarchical coarse‑to‑fine pipeline with a geometric transformer that focuses on local consistency. Experiments on 12 benchmarks show that RAM achieves state‑of‑the‑art inlier ratios and registration recall, outperforming methods trained on individual domains and demonstrating strong generalization.

Does the VGGT Family Need All Its Layers?

The study investigates which layers of feed‑forward geometry models—specifically VGGT, π³, and VGGT‑Ω—are essential for preserving camera poses and dense 3D structure. By pruning 3,018 configurations and evaluating seven metrics across indoor and outdoor datasets, the authors identify two redundancy regions (early and late) and show that combined deletions degrade performance additively, enabling more efficient pruning. They also demonstrate that CKA can serve as a cheaper proxy for interval degradation, and that closed‑form linear calibration can recover accuracy without retraining, reducing aggregator parameters by up to 44% while maintaining comparable performance.
