Recent sign language generation (SLG) systems increasingly output dense 3D body representations, which better preserve full-body kinematics and geometry for downstream embodiment on humanoid robots. However, these generated motions frequently exhibit self-intersections such as hand-hand and hand-torso penetration.

The study investigates how well a single consumer earbud IMU can estimate 3D body pose and whether adding foot IMUs improves accuracy. Using a multimodal capture pipeline with RGB‑D video, an AirPods head IMU, and Striv insole IMUs, the authors benchmark pose estimation across various motions and train recurrent models (IMUPoser and MobilePoser). Results show that a head IMU alone achieves 79.0 mm rigid‑MPJPE and 0.809 macro‑F1 for foot contact, while adding foot IMUs does not significantly improve pose and can even degrade performance due to insole orientation errors.
M3T introduces a discrete multi‑modal motion token system for sign language production, addressing the need for non‑manual features such as mouthings, eyebrow raises, gaze, and head movements. The approach couples FLAME’s expressive facial space with SMPL‑X body parameters and uses modality‑specific Finite Scalar Quantization VAEs to achieve high face codebook utilization (99.0%). Trained with an autoregressive transformer and a sign‑to‑text translation objective, M3T outperforms existing methods on three standard datasets, notably improving accuracy on NMFs‑CSL from 49.0% to 58.3% without large‑scale pre‑training.
arXiv:2605. 05367v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Existing 3D sign language avatar reconstruction methods are developed and evaluated exclusively on Western sign languages, and no 3D parametric annotations exist for any Arabic Sign Language dataset, a gap that blocks the development of avatar-based accessibility applications for the Arab Deaf community.
arXiv:2611.06781v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Sign language generation (SLG) maps written sentences into signing motion while preserving both lexical content and fine-grained articulation. This req...
