The paper presents a spatiotemporal graph neural network that predicts global fire radiative power (FRP) up to seven days ahead using recent observations and reanalysis data. Trained on 2020‑2022 data and evaluated for 2023‑2024, the model reproduces the seasonal FRP cycle and outperforms persistence, reducing mean squared error by 32–43% at one‑day lead and 24–40% at seven days at 0.1° resolution. While large fires are reliably detected, the model underestimates their radiative power and faces challenges in intensity calibration and small‑fire placement.

The study trains a convolutional LSTM on ten annual Earth Observation variables to forecast desertification dynamics in Ceará, Brazil, achieving modest improvements over persistence and capturing 53‑69% of the regional degradation trend. While the model slightly outperforms simple baselines one to four years ahead, it explains only a small fraction of cell‑level variance, indicating that EO data are more reliable for regional trends than for individual pixel predictions. The authors also demonstrate that elevation and EVI channels degrade forecast skill, and use Monte Carlo dropout to quantify uncertainty in future degradation maps.

The paper presents Laxmi, a retrained version of the AIFS weather model that uses satellite-based precipitation observations instead of ERA5 reanalysis data. Laxmi achieves a 19% improvement in global probabilistic accuracy, reduces drizzle overprediction by 33%, and boosts the 95th percentile Brier skill score by 57%. In a case study of 10 Indian tropical storms, Laxmi accurately forecasted 150 mm event-total precipitation in 7 events, outperforming both the original AIFS and the leading physical model IFS.

The paper introduces CloudCast v2, a machine‑learning model that forecasts 12‑hour cloud‑cover from satellite‑derived initial conditions. Trained first on the Copernicus European Regional Reanalysis to learn cloud‑evolution dynamics, it is then adapted to real satellite data using conditional flow matching, a generative technique that conditions noise on observed cloud fields and NWP inputs. CloudCast v2 achieves a 10 % reduction in mean absolute error compared to its predecessor and surpasses it in spatial skill after 3–6 hours, extending useful forecasting beyond the typical 1–3‑hour nowcasting window while preserving satellite‑level spatial detail.

The paper introduces a physics‑guided generative AI framework that uses flow matching to forecast global total electron content (TEC) one day ahead. By embedding ionospheric dynamics described by a partial differential equation into the transformation process, the model blends physical knowledge with statistical patterns, adjusting their influence locally. Trained on a year of TIEGCM‑generated TEC data, the approach outperforms statistical, deep learning, and other generative baselines, achieving a 39.2% lower RMSE than ConvLSTM and a 23.8% improvement over the same framework without physical guidance.

The paradigm of global weather forecasting is rapidly shifting with the emergence of Machine Learning Weather Prediction models (MLWP). While these data-driven architectures demonstrate remarkable global skill, regional benchmarks in the Global South remain scarce, leaving their efficacy in complex, highly convective environments largely unverified.
