The study evaluates self‑supervised pretraining for Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) across 47 public datasets, using a compact Transformer encoder trained with masked patch prediction. Transfer performance is highly task‑dependent: it dramatically improves fault‑classification on CWRU and HSG18 but offers no reliable benefit for remaining‑useful‑life estimation on CMAPSS. The authors also compare centralized versus simulated federated pretraining, finding that centralized training generally outperforms federated training under matched budgets, and that the intrinsic SSL loss does not reliably predict downstream performance.

The paper investigates why latent neural surrogate solvers, which compress physical system dynamics into a lower‑dimensional space, often fail during long‑horizon autoregressive rollouts. It demonstrates that training the latent representation only for reconstruction leads to instability, and proposes a set of training interventions—Koopman operator learning, Hamming noise injection, and multi‑step rollout fine‑tuning—that align the latent space with long‑horizon forecasting. These interventions reduce long‑rollout error by about 40 % and achieve accuracy comparable to full‑resolution models while using far fewer floating‑point operations and GPU memory, enabling stable extrapolation in mesoscale crystal‑plasticity simulations of high‑cycle fatigue.

The paper introduces FastFlowGS, a streaming 4D Gaussian Splatting method that reconstructs fast-moving subjects from a sparse set of external cameras, and Monaco4D, a photorealistic Unreal Engine 5 benchmark featuring Formula 1 sequences with dense ground truth. FastFlowGS combines sparse matches, semi-dense tracks, and dense optical flow using a Kalman-style temporal update, achieving significant performance gains over existing baselines on both CMU-Panoptic and Monaco4D datasets. The benchmark provides varied illumination and viewpoints from trackside, onboard, and drone cameras, enabling evaluation of high-speed outdoor reconstruction.
