Training-Adaptive Convolutional Sparse Coding via Information Bottleneck for Robust Visual Representation

The paper introduces a training‑adaptive convolutional sparse coding (CSC) framework that learns the sparsity coefficient jointly with network parameters using an unfolded FISTA optimization. By treating the coefficient as a differentiable variable, the method balances information retention and compression through an information bottleneck perspective, promoting compact yet task‑relevant representations. A label‑free post‑training strategy further adjusts compression for corrupted inputs, yielding competitive accuracy on clean data and enhanced robustness to perturbations on CIFAR and ImageNet.

High-Frequency First: A Two-Stage Approach for Improving Image INR

The paper proposes a two-stage training strategy for Implicit Neural Representations (INRs) that addresses spectral bias by using a neighbor-aware soft mask to emphasize high-frequency details early in training. In the first stage, the mask assigns higher weights to pixels with strong local variations, encouraging the network to focus on fine edges and textures. The second stage transitions to full-image training, and experiments show consistent improvements in reconstruction quality across existing INR methods.

MG-SpaIR: Multi-grade Sparse-guided Implicit Representation for Training-Data-Free Image Restoration

MG-SpaIR is a training-data-free framework for restoring a clean image from a single observation corrupted by a mixture of blur, downsampling, noise, and missing pixels. Building on implicit neural representations (INRs), we introduce a multi-grade coarse-to-fine residual hierarchy that progressively refines the reconstruction across resolution grades, improving representational fidelity and mitigating spectral limitations.

On the Diffusibility of High-Dimensional Latents

The paper investigates how fine‑tuning pretrained visual encoders for faithful image reconstruction affects diffusion models that operate in the resulting latent space. It finds that such fine‑tuning reduces the effective dimensionality of the latent representation, causing standard velocity‑prediction flow‑matching to fit noise outside the low‑dimensional signal manifold and making optimization inefficient. Consequently, the authors propose using a clean‑data ($oldsymbol{x}_{0}$) parameterization, which focuses learning on the signal manifold and consistently improves text‑to‑image generation across multiple strong‑reconstruction encoders.

Layerwise Tunable Lifting Scheme for the Convolutional Neural Network

The paper presents a family of tunable lifting schemes for biorthogonal wavelet filter banks, introducing three strategies: low‑pass tuning, high‑pass tuning, and a sequential scheme that jointly adapts both branches. These designs use a lattice‑based lifting structure to ensure invertibility and stability for any parameter values. The authors integrated the schemes into a ResNet‑18 backbone and evaluated them on image classification (DTD) and anomaly detection (MVTec‑AD and KRC102S), reporting consistent performance improvements across all tasks.
