When Terminal-Agent Training Stalls: Demystifying Data Generation and Verification Challenge

The paper investigates why training terminal agents often stalls when using a meta‑agent like Claude Opus to generate tasks and verifiers. It identifies three failure modes—benchmark invalidity, harness brittleness, and reward misalignment—and shows that prompt redesign and context extension can improve solvability by 5.6×, yet a 9B model still tops out at 81.3% mean pass@2. Adding hard tasks drops performance to 20.6%, highlighting that solvability depends on the model used.

Harbor Adapters and Harbor-Index: Infrastructure and a Curated Meta-Dataset for Large-Scale Agentic Evaluation

Harbor Adapters is a unified evaluation infrastructure that ports over 80 agentic benchmarks, enabling arbitrary agents to be tested across complex environments. The authors performed a large‑scale evaluation of 8 models on 54 benchmarks, using Terminus‑2 and three native harnesses, revealing detailed agent capabilities and failure modes. They also created Harbor‑Index, a curated set of 82 challenging tasks from 29 benchmarks, designed to be affordable yet comprehensive, with the best model achieving a 28.0% pass rate.

Agent Error Dataset: Scaling 50,000 Error--Diagnosis Pairs for Failure Analysis and Error-Aware Post-Training

The Agent Error Dataset (AED) presents 50,228 error–diagnosis pairs collected from 9,961 source tasks across 33 environments, 19 harness families, and 23 policy models in text‑based agent systems. A five‑stage Agentic Error‑to‑Training (AET) pipeline generates diagnoses and proposed corrections, verifies them against recorded evidence, and creates separate training views for diagnosis and actor recovery. Experiments show that first‑proposal corrections improve verifier pass rates from 18.4% to 51.1%, and fine‑tuning with full‑diagnosis data raises Qwen3‑8B’s exact‑step agreement from 47.2% to 63.6% on a holdout set.

FACET: Preserving Source Intent and Executable State in Terminal Task Synthesis

FACET is a framework for synthesizing terminal tasks that preserves source intent and ensures cross‑artifact consistency. It reconstructs agent skills into coherent scenarios, repairs the execution environment, and uses the resulting container state as shared grounding for the instruction, solution, and verifier. By validating and repairing artifacts through execution, FACET produces complex tasks with dense executable checks and data‑efficient supervision, improving performance on Terminal‑Bench 2.1.
