Visual assessment of residual plots is a common approach for diagnosing linear models, but it relies on manual evaluation, which does not scale well and can lead to inconsistent decisions across analysts. The lineup protocol, which embeds the observed plot among null plots, can reduce subjectivity but requires even more human effort.

Automatic data visualization generation has advanced rapidly with multi-modal large language models, yet existing efforts largely focus on static charts and overlook the interactive dashboards commonly used for real-world data exploration. We introduce Dashboard2Code, a novel task that requires a model to proactively explore an interactive dashboard, acquire and integrate feedback from its own interactions (e.
Lexara-RF introduces reference‑free metrics for evaluating conversational visual analytics agents that generate visualizations and natural‑language explanations. The framework uses only the prompt, data, and model response to score outputs, applying 13 metrics derived from visualization design theory and Gricean principles as consistency, intent‑alignment, and design validity checks. In tests against a human‑rated corpus, Lexara‑RF matches reference‑based methods, outperforms surface‑similarity NLG baselines, and accurately identifies structurally grounded failures.

Vision-language models (VLMs) have shown strong capabilities in generating visualization code from textual or visual specifications. However, real-world visualization authoring is inherently iterative: users frequently revise existing visualizations to repair flawed charts or adapt them to desired styles.

ChartDensity-Bench is a benchmark designed to evaluate multimodal large language models (MLLMs) on their ability to reconstruct structured numerical data from scientific charts that vary in visual density. The benchmark uses charts paired with source-level ground-truth data and systematically changes the number of simultaneously presented charts (k = 1, 3, 6, 9) to assess how density affects reconstruction performance. A multi‑dimensional evaluation framework measures structural reliability, reconstruction completeness, parseability, and numerical fidelity, revealing that numerical reconstruction generally worsens as visual density increases, with varying degrees of degradation across different models.
