Sparse Equation Matching: A Derivative-Free Learning for General-Order Dynamical Systems

Sparse Equation Matching (SEM) is a derivative‑free learning framework that uses integral‑based sparse regression with Green’s functions to discover differential operators and driving functions in general‑order dynamical systems. The method unifies several existing equation discovery techniques and is validated through extensive simulations that compare its performance to derivative‑based approaches. SEM is then applied to EEG data from 52 participants performing oculomotor tasks, successfully identifying active brain regions and task‑specific connectivity patterns.

From Classification to Regression: Using a Fruitfly to Solve Equations

We present a novel approach to regression tasks using classification which is motivated by the mechanism used by fruitflies to sense their environment. Specifically, we formulate a general framework for learning nonlinear input-output relationships by replacing complex global surrogate models with a finite library of representative local patterns.

Estimating Parameter Fields in Multi-Physics PDEs from Scarce Measurements

The paper introduces Neptune, a method that uses independent coordinate neural networks to infer parameter fields in multi-physics PDEs from sparse measurements. Neptune can accurately estimate parameters with nonlinear, spatiotemporal variations, outperforming existing techniques by reducing estimation errors by up to two orders of magnitude and improving dynamic response predictions by a factor of ten. It also demonstrates strong physical extrapolation, enabling reliable predictions beyond the training data.
