arXiv:2404. 06294v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Super-Resolution (SR) is a time-hallowed image processing problem that aims to improve the quality of a Low-Resolution (LR) sample up to the standard of its High-Resolution (HR) counterpart.

Pixel diffusion models generate RGB images directly but tend to miss fine‑scale natural‑image statistics. The authors introduce an adversarial post‑training step that adds an adversarial loss to the model’s output at non‑high‑noise timesteps, without changing the architecture or sampling procedure. This approach improves distribution fidelity, coverage, prompt alignment, and perceptual quality across two pixel backbones, and restores missing high‑frequency spectral power while avoiding memorization or mode dropping.

Unified image restoration (UIR) aims to recover high-quality (HQ) content from low-quality (LQ) images with different degradations using a single model. Most recent methods adapt large pretrained text-to-image (T2I) latent diffusion models for their strong capacity and generative priors.

The paper introduces a perceptually regularized diffusion framework for image super‑resolution, adding perceptual‑loss based regularization to the standard diffusion training objective. This approach incorporates prior knowledge to improve training convergence and encourages the recovery of meaningful image features. Experiments on benchmark datasets show enhanced perceptual quality while maintaining competitive distortion metrics.

The paper introduces CM-RED, a fast MRI reconstruction method that combines a pretrained consistency model with the regularization by denoising framework. By integrating controlled noise injection into accelerated proximal gradient updates, CM-RED achieves high‑quality reconstructions on fastMRI knee and brain datasets with only four network function evaluations. It consistently outperforms existing diffusion‑ and consistency‑based approaches in quantitative metrics, visual fidelity, and robustness to hyperparameter changes.
