DS@GT ARC at ImageCLEFmedical 2026: Architectural Diversity for Concept Detection and Foundation-Model Scaling for Caption Prediction in Medical Image Analysis

We describe the DS@GT submissions to the ImageCLEFmedical Caption 2026 challenge, which continues a long-running benchmark on the ROCOv2 dataset with two tracks: Concept Detection (Task 1), assigning UMLS Concept Unique Identifiers (CUIs) to radiology images, and Caption Prediction (Task 2), generating natural-language captions. For Task 1, our primary submission was a three-way late-fusion ensemble of ConvNeXt-V2, BiomedCLIP ViT-B/16, and DenseNet-169 with a regularized ''Honest Threshold Tuning'' procedure designed to avoid validation overfitting on rare concepts; this submission ranked first on the official submission with a primary $F_1$ of $0.

TAP-Path: Task-Adaptive Structural and Token Pruning for Efficient and Trustworthy Pathology Foundation Models

TAP-Path is a task‑adaptive compression framework that restructures a pretrained Virchow2 encoder for histopathology. It selectively removes transformer blocks, prunes patch tokens, and adds a lightweight gated task head, reducing parameters by 24.96% and FLOPs by 35.20% while maintaining high accuracy on a 32‑class benchmark. The method achieves competitive test metrics and improved rare‑class performance, with strong external validation on CPTAC samples.

CropCop: An Auditable 120-Class Plant-Health Model from Benchmark Reconstruction to a Quantised Runtime Artifact

CropCop is a closed‑set plant‑health recognition system covering 120 operational classes, built from a rigorously audited dataset of 109,107 images after removing 3,233 duplicate relationships. The model, based on a fine‑tuned DINOv3 ConvNeXt‑Tiny, achieves 98.51% accuracy and 96.87% macro‑F1 on a locked internal test, while a quantised MobileNetV4 variant reaches 98.46% accuracy and 96.23% macro‑F1 in a 22.60 MiB runtime artifact. Validation‑only post‑training quantisation and a compact ExecuTorch/XNNPACK PTE ensure high fidelity between the trained model and its deployed form, with minimal decision changes between the INT8 graph and the final artifact.

Multimodal Medical Image Parsing with Task-Specific Low-Rank Adapters

The paper presents a method for adapting a single vision‑language model, Qwen3.5‑9B, to medical image parsing tasks by using task‑specific low‑rank adapters (LoRA) selected from the input question. The system employs a frozen 4‑bit backbone and customizes adapter ranks, prompts, and class rebalancing across six task families and seven imaging modalities, achieving strong performance on the FLARE 2026 Task 3 dataset and a hidden‑validation set. The authors provide code and demonstrate that task‑specific adapter configurations and image budgets improve performance across diverse medical imaging tasks.

Lumen: Parameter-Efficient Alignment of Pretrained Vision and Language Encoders for Zero-Shot Computational Pathology

Lumen is a pathology vision‑language model that aligns frozen unimodal foundation models (Virchow2 and BioMedBERT) using rank‑4 adapters and projection heads, training only 0.40% of the total parameters on the QUILT‑1M corpus. It achieves the highest mean chance‑corrected balanced accuracy (0.546) across nine zero‑shot patch benchmarks and demonstrates strong performance on lymph‑node metastasis detection, with AUROC scores of 0.964 internally and 0.955 externally. While it ranks third in cross‑modal retrieval, Lumen’s low‑parameter training yields competitive results at both patch and slide levels.

Self-Supervised Pretraining of Molecular Graph Encoders with LeJEPA

The study investigates whether self‑supervised pretraining improves molecular graph neural networks by adapting the LeJEPA architecture to molecular graphs. While pretraining enhances learned representations and a frozen probe outperforms random initialization on tasks such as ogbg‑molhiv, it does not consistently boost finetuning performance across different data splits. Combining pretrained embeddings with 1024‑bit Morgan fingerprints yields modest gains, indicating that pretraining provides complementary information best exploited at the feature level.
