ClueTracer is a training‑free, parameter‑free plugin that suppresses hallucinations in multimodal reasoning models by tracing how visual clues propagate from the question through the model’s reasoning pathway. It localizes task‑relevant image patches while ignoring irrelevant regions, thereby addressing the problem of reasoning drift where models over‑focus on question‑irrelevant entities. The method improves performance across various reasoning architectures by an average of 1.21× on reasoning benchmarks.

The paper introduces CompareBench, a new benchmark suite for evaluating visual comparison reasoning in vision‑language models. It includes TallyBench for object counting, OmniCaps for captioning and tagging, and a 1,200‑question CompareBench that tests quantity, geometric, spatial, and temporal comparisons. Experiments on nine closed‑source models show strong overall performance but persistent weaknesses in counting, spatial reasoning, geometric comparison, and temporal ordering, highlighting visual comparison as a systematic challenge for current VLMs.

The paper introduces FindIt, the first comprehensive benchmark for evaluating the promptable localization abilities of generalist multimodal large language models (MLLMs). It covers four core task categories—object detection, referring expression detection, instance-level detection, and video-based detection—and provides a unified framework that standardizes inputs, enforces parsable bounding box outputs, and defines transparent evaluation protocols. Using this benchmark, the authors assess a range of open-source and proprietary MLLMs, revealing both their strengths and limitations, particularly their sensitivity to formatting constraints and difficulty generalizing to minor variations.
