Generative listwise ranking with Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) aims to capture global list context in a single forward pass, but its effectiveness degrades in long-context multimodal scenarios. We identify a recurring failure mode, parse collapse, where the autoregressive decoder produces fluent yet incomplete rankings by silently omitting candidates and terminating early.

The paper introduces a holistic framework that jointly optimizes architecture, token, and bit-width for Vision Transformers (ViTs). It uses Neural Architecture Search (AutoFormer) to find compact backbones, token merging (ToMe) to reduce information processing, and fp16 mixed‑precision inference to accelerate operations. Experiments on ImageNet‑1K and a real‑world 3D X‑ray semiconductor defect dataset show over 10× improvements in throughput and reductions in parameters, FLOPs, and energy while preserving accuracy.

The paper investigates how visual representations contribute to pixel diffusion transformers and finds that higher representation quality does not always improve generative performance, and that separating architecture into specialized decoders mainly redistributes modeling rather than enhancing generative suitability. Based on these findings, the authors propose Representation Guidance (RG), a method that compacts generation-relevant information into a low-dimensional bottleneck and explicitly uses it to steer decoder generation. RG achieves state‑of‑the‑art results on ImageNet 256×256 with fewer parameters, scales efficiently, and extends to text‑to‑image tasks with strong benchmark performance.

The paper introduces a hardware‑aware framework that uses genetic programming to evolve layer‑specific scalar functions for Vision Transformers, replacing traditional LayerNorm with efficient, heterogeneous approximations. By applying a post‑training re‑alignment strategy, the method eliminates the need for full model retraining while achieving 90‑93% variance capture and recovering over 84% of ImageNet‑1K Top‑1 accuracy for ViT‑B and ViT‑L. The resulting architecture removes the global reduction bottleneck, reducing arithmetic complexity and off‑chip memory traffic, thereby enabling efficient deployment of ViTs on edge accelerators.
