From Isolation to Alignment: Unified LoRA for Efficient Multi-Task Learning

The paper introduces Align‑LoRA, a unified LoRA framework for multi‑task learning that replaces complex, isolated adapter designs with a single‑adapter model enhanced by a higher rank and an explicit alignment loss. It demonstrates that a router‑free, multi‑head model with high inter‑head redundancy can outperform more elaborate baselines, and that a unified LoRA can achieve competitive performance while enabling weight merging and zero inference latency. Extensive experiments and theoretical analysis confirm that Align‑LoRA surpasses prevailing approaches, offering a simpler, production‑friendly paradigm for parameter‑efficient fine‑tuning of large language models.

IFHierBench: Hierarchical Instruction Following for Large Language Models

Instruction-following ability is critical for deploying large language models in real-world applications, where downstream components depend on the output satisfying specific constraints. Modern deployments increasingly handle the full task in a single LLM call, with one prompt specifying a layered output whose overall artifact, structural sections, and nested fields must each satisfy concrete constraints.

Synthesizing Instruction-Tuning Datasets with Contrastive Decoding

The paper introduces CoDIT, a contrastive decoding technique that separates instruction-following behavior from pre-trained world knowledge in large language models. By generating responses that emphasize post-training instruction capabilities while suppressing shared pre-trained knowledge, CoDIT creates instruction-tuning datasets that lead to consistently better model performance than directly generated responses or existing public datasets. The authors also provide theoretical and empirical evidence that CoDIT effectively distills instruction-tuning knowledge from model parameters into text, facilitating cross-architecture transfer.
