Orthros: Phase-Aware Heterogeneous Attention for Efficient Transformers

Orthros introduces a phase‑aware heterogeneous attention mechanism that dynamically switches between linear‑complexity prefilling and full‑attention decoding, reducing the asymptotic cost compared to standard Transformers in long‑context scenarios. The method supports efficient Transformer‑to‑Orthros conversion, achieving higher performance than the original model and delivering a 21.9× prefilling speedup while maintaining strong in‑context recall, including 128K‑scale needle‑in‑a‑haystack tasks. These results demonstrate Orthros’s potential as a more efficient and flexible alternative for industrial Transformer applications.

DeltaLLM: Delta-Key Sparse Attention for Edge LLMs

DeltaLLM is a training‑free framework that accelerates on‑device large language model inference by introducing delta‑key sparse attention and a vectorized structured sparse online softmax. It reuses delta keys across query heads, preserves exact attention near the diagonal while approximating non‑local regions, and exploits hardware‑friendly sparsity with a specialized vector‑processor architecture. Experiments on BitNet‑b1.58‑2B‑4T and LLaMA3.2‑1B‑Instruct show up to 60% delta‑key sparsity, 63% structured attention‑score sparsity, and a 1.62× speedup on the KV260 FPGA with minimal accuracy loss.

DiffLUT-Net: Differentiable Training of FPGA LUT Networks with Learnable Connectivity

DiffLUT-Net is an FPGA-native neural‑network architecture that uses six‑input lookup tables (LUTs) trained from scratch. The method jointly learns each LUT’s 64 truth‑table entries and the source connections to its six input ports through a differentiable LUT function relaxation and hardware source selection. After training, the learned truth tables and connections are discretized, unused logic is pruned, and the network is exported as synthesizable Verilog, achieving favorable accuracy‑resource trade‑offs across five benchmarks.

FPGN: Redefining Ultra-Fast Programmable Gate-based Neural Acceleration with Differentiable LUTs

Achieving nanosecond-scale inference latency for deep neural networks (DNNs) has become a primary architectural concern for latency-critical applications. While Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) offer a promising substrate for low-latency inference, conventional FPGA accelerators remain arithmetic-centric, using LUTs primarily as building blocks for numerical operators and peripheral logic.

Benchmarking Attention for Tabular Foundation Models

The paper introduces a reproducible benchmark for evaluating attention mechanisms in tabular foundation models, focusing on the distinct row and column attention patterns that differ from language model attention. It compares several backends—Torch SDPA, FlashAttention variants, vLLM, and SageAttention—across realistic tabular shapes on A100, H100, and B200 GPUs, revealing that optimal backend choice varies by attention type, hardware, and model specifics. The study finds FlashAttention generally performs best, but CuDNN can outperform it for column attention on longer sequences, while SageAttention excels for large row sequences beyond 16k rows.

GatedV: Self-Gated Values for Transformer Language Models

The paper introduces GatedV, an attention variant that applies the SiLU activation only to the value matrix before aggregation, adding no extra trainable parameters. Experiments on a decoder‑only Transformer show that, with matched parameter counts and training budgets, GatedV consistently lowers held‑out perplexity—by 2.0% at 2.33M parameters and 2.4% at 26.16M parameters—across multiple seeds. Ablations indicate that the performance gains are not fully captured by simple affine rescaling of values, and a benchmark on NVIDIA DGX Spark reports a modest 0.7% increase in full‑context forward latency for the larger model.

FlashLoop: Fast and Memory-Efficient Looped Transformers via Lazy Updates

FlashLoop is a training‑free inference framework for Looped Transformers that reduces cross‑loop redundancy by employing token‑sparse updates, sparse attention, and KV‑residual quantization. It exploits observations that, as loops progress, state changes concentrate on a small token subset, attention differences are dominated by a sparse key subset, and KV residuals become amenable to low‑bit quantization. The method achieves lossless accuracy with up to 1.64× speedup and 6× KV‑cache memory reduction across several Looped Transformer models.
